1982 Slate Blue Metallic SR

Very sharp looking Jeep! I'm jealous.

White bumper looks good with wheels.

Probably going do same on 82 Oriental, which I need dig out and finish

Thanks Dennis. The rear bumper does look really good on it. I believe the powder color was called road stripe white.

It’s a good survivor for sure that needed to be saved.

Totally agree. I'd take an original survivor Jeep with all its imperfections in the paint/body etc. over one that been resto-mod any day. They are only original once. Good job saving this one.

I went over and helped JeepAddict work on this one this weekend, and haul a bunch of left over red project Scrambler parts back, and visit my Spring Special!!!

Loading up the Gladiator:

Gladiator bed/tail gate is a great work table:

The poor patient:

This Jeep sat for a long time before JeepAddict bought it, needed a bunch of maintenance.

Things completed:

Changed engine oil and filter
Flushed out radiator/heater core/overflow bottle
New coolant
New radiator hoses
New heater hoses
New belts
New PS lines
All new underhood fuel lines and filter
New battery cables (3)
New air filter
New plugs, cap and rotor

Still needs some more maintenance work, but at least it is safe to drive around now.

Changing the two PS lines always sucks, especially with grill/fenders in the way!!!

Working through the parts stash:

I left the air injection belt off for now, more on this in a bit. The Scrambler is actually running really well now. The PO put a Chinese carb on it, seems to run well, except choke stays on a bit longer then I would like, but I couldn't get the choke cover screws to break free to adjust it.

Still needs some more work, but JeepAddict can now safely drive it around.

About the worst surprise, and I didn't do it!!!

The bolt that holds the air injection pump bracket to the engine was broken.

Unfortunately, this is also a head bolt. It is snapped off way down in there.

I can't/won't fix this in the parking lot, will have to bring it to my house and pull the cylinder head. Yeah!!

Oh well, future project, and that will give me an excuse to finish all the other underhood work that needs to happen.

Two final pictures, blue Jeep trucks together side by side. Both are very different, I still prefer the Scrambler!!!!

I wasn't to crazy about this one when I went woth Tommy to buy it. But, I am now. The color is really cool, and after working two days on it, you get attached!!!!

I'm sure I will be seeing more of this one in the future.

I have to ask, did he make you bring your own tools? Oh........you must have a "sponsorship" deal with Craftsman.....cool

As always - living the Jeep thing through your posts!

I always bring my own tools, we would spend two weeks trying to find tools over at Tommy's warehouse :banghead:

In reality, just easier to throw all my stuff in a box and bring it. I am always working on Jeep's at home, so all my "most commonly used Jeep tools" are always in one place.

As for Craftsman, I bought like a 400 piece set back in the 90's (when it was still made in the USA), and still have/use 95% of it. I have wore out ratchets, broke a socket or two, and lost a few pieces, BUT honestly, I still have most of it, still works fine, so I keep using it. Also, we used to have a Sears here that sold Craftsman, so I would always go there to buy "specialty tools", so most of my junk is from Sears, and it is all old, but still works. I am sure there are other better/more expensive options out there for "professionals", but for my use, and I use this crap more then most "shade trees", Craftsman was a good balance between cost/longevity. All there new stuff is "Made in China", not sure how good it is :twocents::shrug:

I would not pass up a "sponsorship" form anybody, wink wink Snap On or others :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

This is a cool CJ8, I look forward to finding another like it...

Hey Jeep Addict ,
I was just looking through this old post ,love the slate blue half soft top and Jeep obviously.
How did you use soft doors and last photo shows Jeep with soft top and hard doors?

That’s actually a different Scrambler. My friend in Indonesia owns that one. It has the soft top that works with the hard doors. A little different set up than the soft top with soft doors on mine.

Guessing from the location and the wipers that is a RHD? Nice looking 8.

Scored some slate hard doors locally today with great patients to match this Scrambler. Also, a hard top and slate dash pad. The doors I’ve wanted for a while so stoked when I found them 10 minutes away. Time to polish them up
