1983 frame off refresh - finally

Didn't take much to draw you out of that nice shop you've been working in. Gotta text coming your way🤓

That Motorcraft carb is sexy....wanna see that 8274 shiny.

In this picture I see a..........
rebuilt 2150 carb
ignition wires on a HEI cap
a mechanical oil gauge

So I was able to rebuild the carb, fill it with oil, put an oil filter on it, install new spark plugs, put 194 bulbs in the fender marker lights and hang the exhaust system (pipe and muffler) that I saved that came with it.
Rolling her over with the starter it registered 62 psi oil pressure cranking! It may be true what to PO told me that the motor had been rebuilt. So much for that Mercedes OM617 transplant.

I've got to install the p/s hoses and complete the fuel lines. I did shoot a little ether in her and she fired!

Need advice on exhaust system. Looking to buy from NAPA or such. Mrs. CJ8 wants it to be quiet.

Well I got the P/S lines installed and the switches connected to the underwood harness for the transmission and transfer case. pretty mundane tasks to say the least.
I also was able to piecemeal the Weber throttle linkage to the freshly rebuilt and installed MotorCraft 2150 carb. Here's the pics of that adaptation.

I also met up with cbford this afternoon. Felt bad I couldn't stay too long but other things needed my attention. He had a take off exhaust system that I purchased from him to use on my build in place of the tractor exhaust the PO had on it. Here's the picture, now just to install it.

Where did you get the bits for the throttle linkage? Those look like they are store bought, and look very clean installed.

Going to pick these things up Tuesday evening, finally. Been out working and just returned Thursday. There went 3 1/2 months well spent. Now to get me on the road and clean the shop up and catch up on the many, many Jeep projects I have been sitting on.

In the 450 on the way back. Had to get some truck oil (diesel), it's $2.93 here. When did it shoot up?

It's $3.25 around the house from me. Only diesel I buy is on a company card which is good since the trucks range from 4 mpg to 10 mpg. It did go down 1 penny yesterday and back up 7 over night.

Got all the pieces parts to the shop and unloaded. Did notice however that the hood has 2 small dents in it. Called the painter and he said "no worries" just to bring it to him and he'll make it more better. Got the windshield frame and drivers door on as well as the OEM tailgate hinges and don't let me forget the hood too! There's something to be said about the fitment of the OEM scthuff. I gad to trim the 2 outermost bolts on the top door hinge as they fouled against the inner vent window channel. With a Metabo and 20 seconds, presto, it fits!
I've got to get the guts in the doors and the defrost ducts in as well as carry it to the alignment shop to make it steer straight, etc.

....you know there's more coming!

What are you doing about those wheels? They need some sprucing up ;)

The paint looks really nice... love it.

I've got a set of (4) OEM chrome 15 x 7 wheels with nice caps. I'm going to use those. I'm always on the lookout for a set of chrome 15 x 8's though. I'm still on the fence on the 33-10.50 - vs 32-11.50 tires.......what say you? (OME 2 1/2" YJ heavy springs, 1" body lift, 3/4"-1" shackle lift). It's sitting on 31-10.50's now and I plan on running a full hard top in the colder months.

15x8's are a bit tough to come by.
I recently found a set and cleaned them up and sold them... that was the first full set I have had in years that were nice chrome.
There are others I have come across, but the chrome hasn't been the greatest... and when I do find very nice ones, it is usually a spare that was never used.

As for the tire size... depends on what look you want to go for... 15x7's with those widths looks nice... when they are on 15x8's, they don't have as much side bulging that makes it look more agressive.
Personally I like 15x7's on 33x12.5... but your widths are gonna be smaller.

as for the height of the lift, I think you can get away with 33's, but 32's probably would fit the best, with the additional weight of the top.
