1983 Restore in Ga 4bt cummins goin in now

Just read through the whole thread and I'm impressed. Great job saving another Scrambler and nice work on all the fabbing. I find the Diesel swap interesting but don't think I'd do that to mine. I kinda like the panting idle of a mildly modded V-8 but can relate to the utility and durability of that particular Diesel engine. Also looks like it went right in without too much fuss.

Question on the lift springs, do you know the make? From what I can see in some of the pics they look to be BDS or Old Man Emu judging by the wrap and the brackets? Reason I ask is I have the BDS 4" springs with the wrap and re-used my 3/4" lift shackles which gives me a 4.75" lift. After looking at the height of your Jeep using the rear frame arch as a guide I went in the garage and looked at my frame as a comparison. I like the height of the body and the overall lift although I didn't think it would be the high, so now I have a good idea of what the outcome will be. Also I'll be running 33" tires.
 
Mine are rubicon express 4.5 with a lot of shackle lift in the rear and a shackle reversal on the front.When I go back together I may do a one inch body lift and take some shackle length out.
 
Well When you depend on someone else to do your work it can grind to a halt. I got the cummins in the bronco and the body work is just creepin along on my jeep cause they are workin on it when they get time, I know it will look great when they are done but man I am jonesin to put it back together and go ridin, I have gotten the underside and firewall painted aswell as the frame, I also did the balljoints the otherday.





 
I still have not picked a color yet. Lets vote. RED, BLACK, TAN or original dark blue??????????????
 
From that list I would say red, even though I just painted my sons jeep black. If you're up for suggestions I'm considering Washington Blue:

Seems like a Diesel should be blue, but I'm not sure why...

I once saw a Cray Supercomputer that was the most beautiful finish and color of bronze, but I haven't had much luck getting any info on that :(
 
Well them free paintjobs don't come easy, It seems like I took the tub off the frame six months ago but its really only been off about 2 months, They got it sprayed with slick sand wed eve and maybe it will have color on it in a week or two..... We got the cummins sat on the bronco frame today so maybe this will push the body shop along on my jeep. For those who are just checking in I put a cummins in a early ford bronco for the guy who owns a body shop in the same complex my shop is in. In return they are shooting my jeep for me. At this point I wish I would have just let him pay me and I could have been done with my jeep alongggggg time ago. In his defense they do all rental work for the airport and with all the storms we have had in the south here lately they are turning out 120-150 cars a week so they have been busy.

Wouldn't that be UGA red? heehee!
I ended up making a shaft from a CJ5 work...ish. Lots of grinding and test fitting. Its a trail fix that allowed me to limp it back to Home. I limped to the DS shop in Winchester first but they couldn't help. Only rebuild the factory XJ CV part which doesn't work anyway. And that would have been a several day wait. So its parked back on base for now. I used a rental car to come "home" on leave and will look at it when I get back.

Guess whos got color???????????????????????

Well the wife and kids went to fla for the next ten days and I am all alone for the week, I went to the guys at the body shop yesterday and told them if they would paint it this weekend I could get it back together whele the wife and kids were gone. Low and behold they listen to me and I have a red jeep BIG WHOOO WHOOOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am on the road to get it back together FINALY.... It seems like it been down for a year or more.....






 
I admire people that the time to do things right. I'm sure it will be sweet when it's done. Looking forward to the pics!
 
This is where the pics will be pouring fourth, I have been waiting for the day I could get paint on it a nd start putting it back together, I got in to late sat afternoon to get up to the shop and get it out of the paint booth so we will have to get it Monday morning and then ITS ON............
 
Well I was swamped to day at work so all that happened was we got it on the frame and onto a lift. But man its lookin sexy in my eyes after lookin at it for the last two years in BLAAAAA colors.... It sure pops now. They used some kinda high dollar clear on it and it is shiney and wet looking for sure.
