1983 Scrambler "STUMP JUMPER". Frame off, 5.3 Conversion.

Beautiful. Makes me want to paint a tub before installing on mine. But by then I will be close to just having two Scramblers. Can't have that happen. ;)

Hey, whats wrong with owning two Scramblers. :)

Two is not enough, and sometimes three isn't, either, so then you have to start "borrowing" them from other people, too :rotfl::cheers:

Paint looks good, is that Sebring Red :cheers:

Not quite the answer I was going for... Red Maroon Paisely Metallic... something along those lines ;)

Just messing with you CB. I'm not sure of it's true name yet but I''l let you know. It's obvious a medium red. It is metallic base coat /clear coat. The rest of the CJ will also have pearl in the clear coat. The belly pan doesn't have the pearl but the firewall does. Over $1500.00 worth of paint material alone going into this one.

I also just placed an order with Genright fuel tanks for a 20 gal Aluminum tank with skid plate that will use a YJ fuel module for the high output fuel pump and the modern sending unit. I'm just tired of messing with broken CJ sending units and fuel gauges.

I need to put in a plug for Genright. The gave me over $100.00 discount, free shipping and no tax just for being a Veteran. I'm happy they even asked.

This jeep is going to be sweet. I havent seen the body yet but the motor and chassis are awesome looking in person.

Beautiful!

Thanks Randy I like it too. I took your advise and ordered the Genright 20 gallon fuel tank with the YJ fuel module. I've already replaced three brand new CJ sending units in the last 6 years.

Follow-up....I installed the programmable fuel gauge today. I had to empty the tank to calibrate it to empty and then fill the tank to calibrate it to full. I then used a electric fuel pump and removed 5 gallons at a time and checked the gauge each time. I actually did this three times. It's extremely accurate on full and empty and close enough in between. One thing I figured out after some confusion is that if you remove the sending unit wire with power to the gauge you have to turn off the power and back on so that it will re-calibrate itself. It can be a real PIA if you don't realize this and of course it's not in the instructions. I'm not sure yet if it's worth the $130.00 price tag but we will see. BTW, the night illumination is fantastic.
I just installed the gauge on my cj7 and am having a problem calibrating the gauge. To calibrate the gauge I pressed the momentary switch then turned the key to ignition to power the unit. The gauge would only go to just under 1/4 tank. It keeps cycling to just under 1/4 tank. Did you have this problem or is it only me. Thanks.

You press and hold the button and while holding the button you turn power on then release the button. The needle should cycle. when it gets to your desired marking you press the button again. Also remember if you remove the sending unit wire and then reconnect it you will need to repower the gauge. Its kind of fickle but mine is working fine now.

Zr10054, it was nice chatting with you. Called autometer tech today. Guy said all hooked up correct except he wanted the ground run to a bolt on the engine. Said that you can't connect to the battery because other electronics can mess with it. By hooking to the dash or the battery as ground other electronics are also connected and can effect it. I tried to remind him that everything works it's way to the ground (battery) and he wouldn't hear of it. So I ran a new ground to a bolt on the manifold and got the same problem (naturally). Called back and got another guy. He said I don't have to calibrate the gauge since the stock cj sending unit needs the calibration on "E". I had to remind him that it wasn't going in to calibration mode and with it empty it was reading 1/4 tank and I was going to replace the sending unit with a non stock unit that would need calibrating. He then apologized and said to return to store or send the gauge to them. I guess I was the lucky one to get the reject. It worked out in the long run since saturday I ordered the speed hut cj speedo cluster. I just ordered 2 of their fuel sending units (no more bad units). Pulled the cj7 tank out today, probably the cj8 in the next day or so.

Maybe that answers why my gauge works better now that it hooked up under the dash instead of directly to the battery like I was testing it. I noticed the gauge acted differently with a fully charged battery. I think these modern gauges are sensitive to even slight voltage changes.

I miss working on my Scrambler. I sure will be glad when I get the tub back.

My new Genright EFI fuel tank should be here today. I all ready have the YJ fuel pump and sending unit for it. I also hope to have my tub back in the evening. I can't wait to start putting it back together again.
