IAFFCJ 81 Scrambler

Also had some time to work on getting the dash and console ready to get installed. Going to wire a few more things before I put it in the jeep its much nicer to be able to walk all the way around it rather than standing on my head trying to finish up stuff I can do now.

I did H1 wheels on mine, it is a bunch of work to mount them up. The inserts will go in the new tires a lot easier. Set your inner wheel on an upside down 5 gallon bucket and lay tire and insert over it. It will help. I tried using dynabeads to balance them and didn't have much luck. I can't tell you how many times I had mine apart filling, adding, removing beads. I gave up and put glue on weights on them. I still have 1 tire with beads because I was tired of breaking them down and still haven't pulled them out a year later. So they must work well enough in that one on the back.

Dash looks awesome.
 
I did order beads to try. I am honestly not sure how often this one will be on the road it is pushing many of the height limits here in VA. And by pushing I mean well past. Will see how the beads do.
 
Finished mounting the new tires on my H1 rims today and of course had to put them on to see how they looked and be sure that everything fit as it should. Rear wheel well will need to be cut just not sure how much just yet. Things are getting too heavy to flex with the tools i have in the garage. Once I get some drive shafts on it ill do my best to stuff some tires to do some trimming.

While I had the big tires on I did some steering checking. The redneck ram is awesome no difference from the little tires to these big ones. At ride height everything clears. It looks like all should be good but won't know 100% until I can stuff some tires around.

Everything was going so well until I noticed a leak in the heater core area because Jeep. Tore everything apart because I didn't want to put the console in if the heater core was already bad. Pretty sure I was having an issue at the hose connections to the heater core. I did some sealing up and put it back together. Seems to be OK but I'm still not totally confidant it won't rear its nasty head again.

I was also able to determine that if I only put one set of small tires on it will go in and out of the garage. Barely but it goes. Big tires were awesome but made for a hard time working on it and I have too much left with not a lot of time so i dropped it back down on the little guys.

Decided to go ahead and install the console. I kept trying to get ready for it and moving wires here and there decided that I just needed to start finalizing wiring locations. Hope to get the dash in tomorrow so I can see how it looks with all the gauges lit up.

Damm those tires make the stock one's look small. Remind me of smaller Trailer tires.

If you mean the small tires I am using to get it in the garage they are even small in the stock world. I got them from a used tire shop and are the lowest profile tires they has that fit on a16 in rim. Overall height of the small ones is 22in if I remember correctly. They are tiny for sure.
 
About 80% buttoned up on the inside today. Console in, dash installed and lots of wiring cleaned up. Only had to take the dash off one more time than I wanted as I wired the check engine light the wrong way and it wasn't working. Works now but wont go out so there is that. But all the gauges that I have been able to test work last on is the temp gauge in the transmission it was pretty cold today and no way to get it warm yet. I did run into a few issues, I broke one of the buttons for the winch control, and am working on an attempt to repair before I order another one. I also was concerned that the oil gauge was reading correct at 0 psi as I had messed with oil pick up and this is not a proven engine as of yet. Luckily a wire came off put it back and had 40 psi oil pressure so I felt better there. Now that I had gauges I let the engine warm up so I could set the electric fan temperature. While it was running it started to run pretty bad I started checking everything trying to find what I could have knocked loose to make it run so rough. Turns out these things need fuel to run I had burned through the couple gallons i had in the cell. Some more gas and she was good to go again. I also programed the gas gunge to help with this issue in the future.

And installed a decommissioned drag car harness to start its new life in a Rock Crawler.

I ran out of fuel in dads jeep one its maiden voyage, luckily I coasted into the gas station on fumes.

Plan was to only spend a little while in the garage today as my Wife was off. So I decided why not mount the tail lights that won't take long. Well i was very very wrong on that note. I have Poison spyder corner armor that is cut for a recessed tail light.

This should be a piece of cake. drill a 4.5 in hole and we are good to go.

As you can see the hole falls right on the angled section of tub in the back and this needs to be cut out some. Also it turns out that the corners and the tub together are too much for the rubber that holds the lights in. So i figured out that a 5 in hole is a better plan and allows the lights to sit flush. This made the second light take about 50% less time. I did get them all installed and looking good.

Most of the tail lights that fit in the 4.5 in hole were just that tail lights only but I was able to find this set that had reverse lights in the center. They look to be pretty bright if I get frogy i will add a plate light and the rear might just be legal for road travel.

Got them all wired up and after a phone call to JeeperDD to talk me though some trouble shooting as to why they weren't working everything lights up. Turn signals don't blink but I thing that is due to only having LED lights hooked up and needing a different flasher. Pictures are hard to take they look way better in person.

I really want to get lights like these. But as a DD, I need to get a side marker lights in the back so I can be legal. Are you running little red LEDs on the sides in the back?

That really looks great by the way.

Nope. Pretty sure they will have many other issues before side marker lights. Lol. Already thinking about how to make the next one more of a driver.
 
All of those problems including the side marker light is why I chose to use the Savvy lights instead of insetting some stock housings into the body.
