Been a while again since a update........been working on other projects this winter in the shop.

I did get as much as possible done on the air shift, just valve mounting and plumbing after it's installed.

And a friend of mine brought over a 2008 Pontiac G8 GT that was crashed. It has the L76 6.0 liter and a 6l80 Trans...

So I got sucked into doing the Harness and programming. Willingly since I hadn't done one that new.

Once that was almost done, I got a serious bug for wanting a 6l80 (4.0 1st to .65 O.D.) and fully programmable. Knowing I didn't have time before spring I gave my Transmission guy the go ahead to finish the 700r4 for this summer.

Then I started searching for a 6l80, and matching motor to make it work :fingerscrossed:

Then I found this............

It's a 2016 Chevy 1500 Z71
It has a direct injected 5.3 with a 6l80, And it was wrecked about as bad as I've seen. It went through the trees at a high rate of speed. They said it took about six trees to stop him. And he WALKED away.

The only damage I've found so far is the oil filter was ripped off, so it may need a new oil pan.

The plan at this point is to work on getting it fired up, then work on wiring and install parts this summer. That way next fall I can install. :smokin:

If it works out I plan on using the steering column if it fits. and keeping the BCM functional to run the tap shift, tow haul, cruise, and remote start. :bacon: we'll see, I've never tried keeping the BCM working :fingerscrossed:

I'm excited about seeing the installation pics if the air shift and then seeing it at Sand Blast. I maybe getting ahead of the game but will there be indicator lights telling you what position your non existent levers are in?

I just picked up a new 2016 Silverado with a 5.3/6l80, and was thinking how cool that combo would be in my Scrambler. I'll be watching with great interest to see how you get it worked out!

I haven't heard of problems with these yet........there were with some of the earlier ones. This is the all new that they started in 2014.

I did get it powered up, and checked the odometer.

I put a 6L80 from a 2010 Camaro into a 61 Buick Lesabre- the harness provider had instructions to make tap-shift work without a BCM, but my customer wasn't interested so i never looked into it.

Anyways- Nice score!

So.................after a week of dismantle, and piecing back together, IT RUNS :bacon::bacon::bacon:

It wasn't a easy start up like I've had in the past. I sourced a relay center from Grand Valley Auto parts, after several calls................but it wasn't for a direct injected motor. That got most of the stuff powered up. Still no fuel pressure. After some troubleshooting found the fuel pump/sender was broke off from the inpact and in the front of the tank  still no fuel pressure...........had to bypass the relay center and wire the fuel pump module direct. Then I had 76 psi in the line and 2100 psi in the rail.

Still no run, a little more reading and research. figured out there was more anti-theft that needed to be disabled in the ECM. Tried to flash it last night, after 2 hrs of trying and about 200 "timed out- failed" messages. it flashed. no idea what was going on, I need to email HP Tuners.

Down side is once the VATS is turned off theres no communication to the BCM, so I can't use the cruise, tap shift, remote start or gauges. there's a work around for the tap shift, but no the rest.

Just because you shut off the VATS does not mean that you shut down communication on the CAN network.

I still have CAN communication to the ECM & TCM through the OBD. However I have no communication to the BCM or dash gauge cluster. I figured it was because of the theft protection in the BCM. I have the original key with the transponder, But it hasn't worked yet, No battery for months, probably needed a relearn. And there has been problems with the new system having no start trouble on the Silverado forums.

Do you know if there is a way to get rid of all the VATS, use a regular key, and still have the BCM function on the GEN 5?

Wow, I went trough the entire thread. I didn't get to read it all though, the crunched. Impressive build and nice work.

Dave

It's a couple of key strokes using Efilive-

May have found the problem. After a bunch of metal bending and broken plastic removal. I pulled the BCM out. It has a cracked case and was blown out of the mount, very possible it is damaged internally.

And the next phase in the Silverado revival..........

After a couple more days studying, reading, printing off Alldata pages, ohming wires, head scratching, almost saying forget it..............the key and gauges work :bacon::bacon::bacon::bacon:
Had to bypass the power steering module, the human interface module, and the telecommunications module to get the CAN bus talking to the BCM
