Here's a pic and the story.
I had always seen the jeep parked it the very back of my neighbor's lot until one day I noticed that he was having a garage sale and the jeep was up at the street and a had a sign in the window saying it was a CJ5 with a blown motor for sale for $500. I stopped and argued with him that it definately wasn't a CJ5 because the of the full doors but I wasn't sure what it was because I wasn't a jeep expert and had never seen one like it. He told me that he had overheated the engine 6 months prior and that he had an estimate of $4200 to replace the engine and decided to sell it instead. I told him that was an outrageous price and that he should shop around for a better price because it could probably be rebuilt for a lot less. He agreed and pulled the sign so I knew I had just talked myself out of a jeep. lol
Anyway, I gave him my number and told him to call me if he changed his mind. 8 months later I get a call saying that he was retiring and honestly would never get around to restoring it and if I was still intersted he would let it go for $400. I said sold.
After running the VIN number I saw that it was atcually a CJ8 and and after a little Google searching I found this great website and a lot more about Alaskan postals. It even has the original full nylon mesh headache rack that mounts to the roll bar.
Bottom line, the jeep runs but has a small knock. It has some rust through spots around the rear wheel wells, the winshield frame and the drivers floor pan has been replaced, but the frame, world cab and tub is almost rust free.
My plan is to tear down the engine this winter and rebuild it or put in a built 401 that's been sitting in the corner. lol

My name's Alex, I currently live in San Diego CA. I bought my 82 cj8 at an auction down by the border not knowing exactly what was. ( just looked like a big CJ7 ) After getting it home did alittle more research and found the value, I still intending to fix it and sell it. The I started to drive it around and then thats when the jeep bug bit me and I have been dumping money into it ever since then LOL. This is my first jeep so I have been learning alot along the way and this forum has been a BIG help. I'll be getting out of the Marines in April and relocating to Denver Colorado, so I am hoping to meet some more jeep guys out there that I can really get out there and explore some trails and BS with.

Sorry I was trying to figure out how to get the pictures on here. She needs pant and some body work but she runs great just put a brand new 258 bored 10 over with a light cam and headman headers and the mopar fuel injection kit on it ( came with it when I got it from auction). Just finished 4.56 gears and one piece axles. Cant forget about the new soft top dont want to by one of those again anytime soon.

Hi, I am Patrick.. been here a short time, but have learned much.!! I too always have loved Scrams.. and so when I saw my 82 at my neighbors house, I KNEEEEW I HAAAADD to have that bad chicken !!! (he had it to fix the brakes for the guy that owned it) Finally (after 3 months of nagging) got him to sell it to me for 5000.00 and immediately put another 2g into it.. the totally "CJ" part of that is when my wife asked what I could have POSSIBLY spent 2g on because only the tires had changed (only 750 there) I actually had to think to list all the little things..
I lost her at 875.. including the tires..
Because one CJ is never enough.. when the opportunity arose to trade my 99 dakota (nice, but worth 4000 tops on a good day) for my 78 CJ7.. I was on it like a seagull on a shrimp.!!
I will add the requisite Jeep Porn to this post tonite, as I am on my phone now.
about me.. married for 20 yrs this past December, spent 12 yrs in the "Big Green Gun Club" (USMC) and now work in a prison. me an my bride do mission trips every year through our church, so far to senegal, taiwan, italy.. but mostly teaching english in czech republic
a jo, mluvim czesky.. ale ne moc dobre..
(and yes, I speak czech.. but not very well) pronounce it like a native.. just that my vocabulary and sentance structure suck..
think thats it for now until I can add pics tonite..

Nice.
On the headlight switch; not sure if you know but there is a release button on the switch behind the dash that must be depressed to remove the knob/shaft from the front.

The exterior was completely rhino-lined at some point. Currently working on some electrical problems, trying to remove headlight switch.

Justin from Texas trying to find my first Jeep and set on a scrambler. There's a black one a block behind me (not for sale) that keeps teasing me. Have been reading as much as possible to help know what to look for. Rust really concerns me though. A bit tough, it seems to find them in the 5-10k range that aren't too much of a project. But I'm determined!
It's a blast reading all the posts here.
