I just picked up this 1982 Jeep Scrambler this weekend.
It is already tore down by the previous owner.
It has a 4.2 L with the automatic transmission.
Frame needs some repiar along with the body (looking for a new body,if anyone has any leads).
Unfortuanitly I dont have any pics of what it looked like before it was dismantled, just have the pics i have of everything already out.

So, even though i am awhile away from putting the tub or getting a new tub i have been looking into or looking around. After doing a google search i have found a brand new cj8 fiberglass tub for around 1600.00 not including shipping.
I am going to try and post a link up and in the link scroll down to about half way down the page and youll see it. If you can find it type in J81111 in the wesbite, thats the part number.
Just wondering if anyone of you guys out there have had any experience with this company or what not.
Also what exactly has to be grounded when doing a fiberglass body and how big of a pita is it?

WESBITE IS....http://www.shellvalley.com/store/products.asp?id=cj8&store=jeep

Man looks like you have a lot of work ahead of you. I hope your able to resurrect it back to life!

What type of plans do you have for it? Stock, mild wheeler, other?

Looking forward to your build. Excellent title for sure!!

I plan on putting a 4 inch suspension and possibly a 2 inch shackle.
Possibly a 4.0 from a yj donor along with an ax 15 trans...
My concern will be how hard will it be if I use the dash wiring from the yj and cut the ends and wire in the old gauges....?

Any comments about any mods or suggest anything, throw it out there.
I am open to anything.

I'd think really hard before trying to save that frame. You'll be miles ahead with a TDK.

TDK?

I don't think it really is as bad as it looks.
I am going to take it to a local frame shop, and have them make templates and cut out and replace. Knowing that it was done the right way and clean.

Good find, As for the rust in the frame it is not hard to fix use a cut off wheel so you dont get it to hot and dont weld it up solid weld every inch or so

Looks like it should be a nice project! Congrats!

Look on line or order a catalog from Quadratec, they offer new frame repair sections for the CJ's now. There are some other companies who offer frame repair parts online. You could also use the search function on this board to find addtional sources.

Thanks. I'll check out the frame parts!

I think that it might just be cosmetic rust on the frame. (inside joke)

If you are not familiar with TDK, take a look at some of the build threads on here and be sure to make an informed decision. If you are going with four inches of lift, it sounds like you might be thinking about some hard wheeling.

On the fiberglass tub and the ground issue, you need to ground everything.

No hardcore wheeling, i have a 99 xj i use for that.
I also have a 89 yj 4.2L 89,000 miles that has a 4 inch lift and 2 inch shackles.
Thats kinda why i said 4 inch lift and prolly some 35s

Welcome- you got it right when you said "money pit"! Mine started as a cheap trans/axle swap...

The frame shouldn't be too hard to fix, just weigh the cost of fixing with a new TDK frame as others have mentioned. I personally prefer aluminum to fiberglass, but the prospect of no-rust fiberglass is tempting. There is a beautiful fiberglass build on here right now and an aluminum too! AK-RWC is doing the aluminum one, W.R.Buchanan is doing the fiberglass. Do a search under their usernames and you'll find the build threads. They are both doing outstanding work.

We will see what it will cost to get the frame fixed in a week or so.
The body mounts also need replacing.
I didnt post up all the pics on the thread.
Still trying to figure out how to add them all to the gallery...

Welcome, that definitely looks like a project! Great to see another one coming back to life on here!

On the gallery, you have to be a paid supporting member of the forums to access those, otherwise you can use photobucket or something similar.

Definitely price out a new frame against the frame shop. Frankly, I'm impressed that you found a place that would want to touch this. I had a body/frame pro friend who helped me on my suspension setup and he said their shop won't touch this kind work. Keep in mind that even a repaired frame is still only stock strength at best. The TDK frames that were mentioned are a good bit better than stock in pretty much all respects. (aka BEEFY).

Good luck and
