Randyzzz Scrambler Restification Thread!

Thanks guys! I figured out the T-Stat issue- it was a gallon+ of trapped air. I finally got it out by bleeding it at the heater control valve. Drove it a bunch...followed the gear break in procedure, and then went cruising around town. Took my son-in-law for a ride, he's impressed. Stopped at a garage sale, the guy was more interested in my Scrambler than in selling things! It rides so smooth, smoother than the Cherokee! And it sounds powerful but not real loud, until you mash the skinny pedal. Then, it roars. My wife was loving all the attention we got everywhere we went.

Have to do some minor debugging, there's a rotational brake type sound I have to track down, and the tach doesn't work. All in all not bad considering nothing is stock...:)

Congrats Randy, awesome build:cheers:

I'm sure I will be as happy as you were at you engines first start up if we could ever get the LT1 fired up in my buddies Jeep project:fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed:

Sure are lots of wires on these new motors:crazy::crazy::crazy:

Just awesome!

I think a new avatar is in order :D

I think you're right. I'll work on that.

Drove her to work today...the guys were drooling, the district manager happened to show up today and couldn't keep away from it. Customers were asking "who owns the cool Jeep?" I had a big :Dall day.

Found the rotational noise- a broken spring in the right rear brake drum. No damage done, and I had a spare.

Gotta remove the tach to check it...easier said than done.

Man, the thought of you getting to show it off at work like that just made my day, no, my week.

So thrilled for you Randy!

Randy

Great build! I have really enjoyed following your thread.

Tach fixed, had to add a resistor to amplify the weak signal from the PCM. Also got the overflow bottle for the radiator mounted on the start of an aluminum box for the air filter. Got the stereo wired temporarily so I have some tunes. Took her for an hour drive today...ran like a champ. Actually sorta scared myself...was going 40 and stomped the skinny pedal to the floor. She downshifted two gears, ran through the revs upshifting twice in seconds, and I was doing 100! Faster than you can imagine! WWWWow!!! She accelerates so hard the inertia locks on the seat belts lock in on accel!!! Steers nice and straight, though, although steering with the new crossover setup feels a bit more "vague" than before with the stock steering. Something to look into- I don't have a steering stabilizer installed either. Also feels sorta "tippy" with no sway bar, I may end up installing something like an Antirock, since the stock setup no longer fits.

Still cant stop grinning...

Sounds like an awesome drive. That darn skinny pedal can get ya.

I think I can safely say we are all happy for you bro. Your R+D was amazing on this project.

two thumbs up!!

very happy for you Randy.. can't wait to see pics/vids of her rolling around...

I want to see a video of a burnout.

It will be here...I'm making sure everything is 100% happy working together before I really put her through the wringer. As with any project like this, things always turn up...currently having a speedo issue that's leading me to question my VSS. Some time with the scanner at work tomorrow should tell for sure. Once these little things are resolved, you'll see it...

Fixed it for ya :rotfl:

Yeah, that too!

I figured out my speedometer, the VSS needed to be a few thousandths closer to the tone wheel. So, it works now and I realized that the speedo reads 10MPH slow by the GPS. Oops! Easy to recalibrate, but that means 100 was actually 110

But, in the process of fixing that, I found out that the data link connector isn't working.... Put that on my punch list.

OK, data link connector DOES work. Crappy code scanner at the shop doesn't work though. Took it to a buddy with a nice scanner, everything working like it should, and it's all happy!

Getting closer to that burnout picture...
