Road Trip Coming

Before I saw it I was thinking "G'Day M8"

I think that sums it up perfectly.

Well if a AMC JEEP is still available holy cow grab that one regardless. I only have ever been able to get "jeepcj7" here in NJ and that was about 8 years ago, all 8 versions were taken.

For your new acquisition, the ones with cj8 in em win hands down and my opinionated yet reserved self says I vote for AUS CJ8. A close second is overlander if you are putting original graphics back on. The oz slogans are fun but you can put them on a Kia kangaroo that is not a jeep if you want.

I would go with AUS CJ8 or AUSI CJ8. Covers both the origin and the Jeep model.

My garnet 1986 CJ7 has Texas plate: LAST CJ. I've had that since 2004. Now Texas charges and arm and a leg for new personalized plates through its myplates.com relationship. It really sucks because now they allow 7 letters but charge over $100 a year compared to $40 annually for LAST CJ.

For my others, Texas has a cool law where you can utilize year of manufacture plates for vehicles over 25 years old if you register as classic or antique. I find pairs on Ebay so the Jeeps actually have plates from the 1980's. Period correct is kind of cool.

Do you still have them? I'd love to have them I might even be able to put them back on at least on the front here in Ohio.

AU CJ8 OL
Those in the know will know what the OL is

No, unfortunately they get handed back when the registration is surrendered. Numbers are available for Queensland and I have a new home for them! I maybe able to work something out when I register again in a couple of weeks as I can claim one got "lost" and pay a replacement fee for a new one that I can send over

I vote for AUSI CJ8

Up here in Ontario, Canuckistan, we can use "year of manufacture" plates as well, but only up to 1971.

All the good plates are taken here, and we have a 6 letter max. Plus they're EXPENSIVE!

When I had a Jeepster I managed to get "JPSTRR". Still have those plates.

I like AUS CJ8

I've never seen anyone shorten Australia as AUS, only OZ . I vote OVRLNDR since that's actually what it is or OZ CJ8, (which is less specific.)

Wow, couple questions?

How many springs are in that leaf pack? And that appears to have been reinforced / trussed in a really clean manner. Is this normal from the factory for an overlander?

I'd have to go look again, but I think it's 10 in the rear? They did not come from the factory like that. This was a true "Outback" rig used in the SW Territory from what I've learned. It also was a dual fuel rig, running on petrol and propane, so it had a large propane tank mounted in the rear, hence the truss and increased suspension. I had the tank removed prior to import as the propane tank had a large number of import hurdles to overcome and I really had no use for it here.

And note that I'm talking about in slang/pop/informal references, not any form of formal abbreviation where AUS, I'm sure, is the official one.

Got ya. Guess I'm too old.
When I see OZ all I can think about is The Wizard of OZ. :rotfl:
