Roll bar lights?

IMHO, I think it has to be at least 4, preferably 5 if all round. The 2 round Daylighters on the outsides with 2 square fogs in the middle is kind of a neat 80's retro look too. It's all a matter of preference. I also agree with the dislike of the multi-lens headlights in a CJ, but dagum if those single element LED buckets aren't expensive.
 
I have a YJ windshield lightbar with with 4 or 5 black round KC daylighter. Think I paid $100 for it in 1992 used. Guy was tired of cops stopping him. Been hanging in my basement for 24 years, hasn't been used since '92. One of these days🙄.

That was a real bargain. That $100 dollars then, with inflation now is probably only $10 now.
 
Holy Guacamole, Batman! I just looked on EBay for another pair of the vintage stainless KC lights. They are asking over $200 EACH!!!

Maybe I’ll sell these two ( I even have the soft black KC covers) and buy 4 or 5 of something more modern/affordable. Still round. Heck, they’re mostly for looks anyways!

I have the set of chrome rectangular KC driving lights that I put new on the Postal in AK and then ran for years. Covers pretty much fell apart on them right before I swapped them out for LEDs, but the lenses and housings are fine. I didn't use them very often.

Honestly, I don't know that I'd be up for brand-new KC lights on a new build like yours. I think they look great when they're old/worn on a patina'ed rig (like the used Marchal's I scored for Mater) but with your Scrambler basically being a new Jeep, I just wouldn't go there myself. I do like the new large/round LEDs like were posted above. LEDs just blow everything else out of the water. So, in keeping with your restomod Scrambler I would do restomod LEDs you like. My :twocents:

After some late night research, a few things became apparent. First- those old school incandescent lamps would draw 12.5amps each at 150 watt/12volt. That’s 50 amps for 4 lights. In light of this, LED’s are far superior. I just need to find some without the bug-eye look.

Second- the stainless KC’s that I have are obviously not new, and wouldn’t match up with some new ones. So, I’ll either try to cash in on EBay or save them for the Jeepster.

Third- lights on the roll bar will probably have to be covered while driving, so I need to make sure I have lights with good looking covers.

Lastly, I want the installation to be minimally invasive and sleek. That probably means the lights will mount on a bar that mounts on pivot brackets attached to the roll bar. Pivot so I can tilt them back for clearance. The KC lights have a high profile mount. I want something sleeker.

So…I will put this where it belongs- on the back burner. I have to get her driveable first and foremost. Then I can concentrate on stuff like this. I’ll keep researching lights too and post up results.

I talked to a lighting company back in the magazine days and they mentioned that reflectors need to be specific to LED sources because they emit the light differently than incandescent/halogens. If you weren't concerned with having the greatest light output, it may still be possible, I'm sure someone somewhere on the interwebs has tried.
 
Hella makes some lights that look good from the front but they’re too shallow IMHO. I’ll find something. Give it time. But the response to this thread has convinced me- I need roll bar lights!

Maybe "Brad" is an electrical engineer and he soldered, heat shrink wrapped (Harbor Freight stuff doesn't count) and all the relays are in place oh and fuse protected.....................
