Wow, good thing it is slow at work today. I just read this entire thing. Great Thread, sounds like a great journey. Great pictures too man. Makes me wish I wasn't stuck on this small peninsula.
What and absolutely cool trip you've got planned. It sounds like you'll be car camping. Like Karma said do Check out CA in the Monterey area it is pretty senic up there, also northern CA and the Coastal Redwoods. The Redwoods are a very cool place to camp out and you'll never forget the redwoods smell. It's worth it even if you can only stay for a night or two.
You can then go across I 80 to Reno and then down to Vegas and across to the GC, then across the Navajo Nation and Monument Valley and then up to Moab.
I've done this trip in reverse going to Farmington for a ARCA event in 2001 and then up and around Reno and back to CA. it's a good drive. Lots of neat stuff to look at. I personally love looking at all the junk beside the roads you never know what you'll see laying in somebodies front yard.
I assume this new Jeep is going to be reliable? Taking Tools with you? Or you could buy one of the plastic cased socket/wrench/tool sets for $69.95 from Walmart when you get there. Definately need tools with you on a trip that long.
