Alrighty... last update. then it will be picture time!!!
we stayed the night near Davenport. got up early so we would hit the border as early as possible and just in case we had problems..
on our first fuel stop, we decided to grab a bite to eat. nothing like pizza in the morning. while we were in store/gas station/restaurant the Jeep decided to develop a rad leak... when we come out there was a steady drip and a puddle under her.
we decided to head to the nearest walmart where i could assess the situation and figure out what to do. on our way i pulled over to check and top up the coolant. while on the side of the road a guy pulled over and said he owned a shop down the road and he'd like to give us a hand if we need it. so we went and he pulled an old Ford pick up out of the garage and we pulled the Scrambler in... I adjusted the lower rad hose and re tightened the hose clamp and it didnt seam to leak anymore.
so back on the road we went....
made it to the US/Canada border without any problems or leaks.
we went to the US customs office.
Gave them the title and bill of sale to export the Jeep to Canada. the officer looked at it, walked away for about 2 seconds, came back and said, "ok have a nice day." Connie and I we a bit baffled. do we have to pay or do you have to see the Jeep?? "nope, youre good" SWEET!!
so then we went to the Canada Customs side.
gave them the title with the "Ok to export" stamp on it, and the bill of sale. claimed what we bought and spent while in the US. They sent us to the Office, they processed the title and gave us the importing documents necessary. we had to pay tax on the purchase price. (about $150 cuz of the low purchase price on the bill of sale, thanks Bryan!
) then we were done!!! took literally about 30 minutes to import the Jeep to Canada, from start at US Customs to Finish driving away from Canada Customs!!!
so then we went to visit Connie's Opa and Oma (grand parents, they are Dutch). visited them for a bit then went for fries under the Blue Water Bridge with Connie's mom, sister, brother in law, nephew and a couple friends.
After that we headed to Connie's parent's place. as soon as we got out of the Jeep (around 9:30) and started to walk to the house... the rad started leaking again....
I just wanted a shower and to go to bed!!!
so we pulled the Jeep into her Dad's garage and pulled the rad out. turns out the "weld" on the top of the lower rad hose neck was broken. so we called it a night and would bring it to the rad shop in the morning to get it fixed..
woke up the next morning (yesterday) around 9.
Connie's dad says to me.. good news and bad news.
I say, "give me the good."
He says, "didnt cost you any money this morning"
me, "Ok, whats the bad?"
Him, "the only rad shop in town, went out of business 4 years ago."
me, "sh!t."
so we go out to the garage, put on this gasket maker stuff that he uses for his transport that he has and hoped for the best.
drove the last 3 hours home to Bowmanville. made it without any problems!!
and now shes parked in the driveway, waiting for her spot in the garage...
now i have to sound like I just won an Oscar...
big thanks to everyone who helped us on this trip.
Thank you Bryan (redscram) for all the help, before we bought the Jeep, all the pics and videos you sent were awesome. and thanks for the help when we were there, fixing, putting the carpet in and organizing all the stuff we had.
Thanks to Richard from Farabee's Jeep rental http://www.farabeejeeprentals.com/
we cant thank him enough for everything he did for us. towed the Scrambler about 3 hours to Moab and gave us a 2010 JK off of his trailer for us to get to Moab. Then gave us a deal on a rental when we needed it the second day in Moab. Great guy for sure! If anyone rents a Jeep from him, tell him the people with the broken down Scrambler sent you. He'll take care of you. seriously!!!
Thanks to all the guys at Moab 4x4 Outpost. http://www.moab4x4outpost.com/
Steve the owner, great guy. He helped us out large! Hardly charged us any labor, considering the Jeep was in the shop for about 20 hours.
Buck, (the guy who did most of the work on the Jeep) Thanks man, electrical troubleshooting is a nightmare. and thanks for letting me work on the Jeep with you. most mechanics wouldnt.
the other guys there, thanks too. I was a fun day for us in the shop with everybody.
Thanks to pick up salvage in Bakersfield California. http://www.pickupsalvage.com/
There were lots of other people that helped us too and we thank every one of them. this trip was quite an adventure total mileage... from us leaving our doorstep, flying and driving back home...
