Sunny Delight - now Shelly 2.0

I’m probably about 2 weeks away from driving back (about 5 hrs one way) to pick up the body parts at paint. While I’m there we’re going to apply the decals as well. Therefore it’s time to get the rocker moldings ready. IYKYK

I’ve never had black molding in the past. I’ve always polished up the silver ones and feel they look best when you run chrome wheels / have other chrome bits. With the complete change in direction with the color now I’m torn. I will still have chrome center caps on the white wheels but that’s it. I wonder if I should go black with these guards??

Current plan is to get them ready for decal work since I’ll install them on the tub to help with decal alignment. I’ll just polish them decently for now and take a look when installed. Can easily take them back off to finish the polish or to turn them black

I like the brushed aluminum look, which I'm pretty sure is just faded adonization.

The rails were all anodized black from the factory. They only became brushed aluminum due to years and years of sun exposure.

If you are going for original, black it is. If you are going for what looks good, all bets off, run what ya brung.

Interesting. I spent some time reading on various CJ specific forums and seemed to think that the black anodized started in 83 with silver anodized prior

These, along with the last set of ‘81 rockers I had, didn’t have a spec of black on them anywhere. However I have had some from later years that while the sides looked silver you could definitely see the black on the bottom side.

Regardless I’ll go with what looks best to me. Right now I’m leaning towards silver

5 hr drive ahead of me tomorrow. Taking the chassis to the painter’s place to set the body on. We’ll spend Friday morning applying the decals and back to the coast Friday evening.

A little out of order but with selling two personal homes, selling the family homestead and travel and then moving into a rental home down at the coast where we are building - I have not gotten around to ordering the drivetrain. That’ll happen Monday morning.

To be honest not having much to do on the Jeep hasn’t been terrible. Today was the first day in weeks we weren’t over 100 degrees with the heat index.

Side note - we added another Jeep to the herd. We sold our two year old Wagoneer to Carvana. I won’t go into the details here but if anyone is thinking of buying a Wagoneer please reach out to me. I have owned over 50 vehicles in my life. Our Wagoneer was by far the worst vehicle I have ever owned and multiple folks we know would say the same thing

When it wasn’t in the shop or hanging out with me on the side of the road broken down it was nice. Smooth ride and so much power for such a large SUV. But you never knew what was going to happen next.

Wife is happy with the replacement
