which I thought was disappointing.Headed out this morning for a trip up north to my favorite meat shop. I had just gotten onto the freeway about maybe 5 miles when the serpentine belt gave up the ghost. The steering got heavy and I put the flashers on, which I only got working last month and looked for a good landing spot on the shoulder. Of course, the shoulder was thin, so I milked as much as I could while watching the temp go from 200 to 220 and by 230 it was time to shut her down just in time to roll past a guardrail and get a nice safe spot. By then the hydro boost was sucked dry, but with a little effort we stopped safely.
It's seattle in December, so of course it's raining. I take a quick look up front and sure enough my new belt is in shreds. I pop the tailgate down, open the tuffy box and confirm what I already knew. No tools. After some searching I came up with a screwdriver and a nice metal rod for a soft door upright. I get to work stripping out the shredded threads and see I've got a 3 rib section that is complete if I could somehow get it back on. No luck with the tools at hand, but here comes an early Christmas. I look up to see a fellow Jeeper stopping. He helped to work on it in the rain and then took a full hour out of his day and drove me to the nearest auto parts store where I got a new belt and a couple wrenches, then drove me back and would not leave until it was on.
Lessons here:
1). Jeep folk really restore faith in my fellow man. Honestly, I wont get anything for Christmas this year that will mean as much. (Even the new seek thermal IR camera for iPhone ive been waiting for)
2). Resist the urge to wait another day before organizing the tool box for the jeep.
But seriously, I've never felt so good for laying on my back on the pavement in the rain. This was not a bad day, this was one of the best.
Oh...and for my Good Samaritan, he would not let me buy two quarts of oil for him at the auto parts store, but talked about being a single father and working 6 12 hour shifts earning extra money. This guy is truly my hero. So I sneaked a hundred dollar bill into his cup holder getting out. I bet you he will be a little pissed I did it, but I wish I could have done more.
Freakin GREAT day.
Now...looks like I need to adjust that custom power steering bracket...again.
Even with that it could have been worse. You could have been on the freeway or out on the road. Glad it happened there. She didn't let you down, she left you at home.

Do I replace or upgrade?![]()

M.O.R.E makes a plate to move the axle 1" forward or backward. Will this still work with the driveshaft (have enough spline to stay together at full droop). I'm starting into the new wiring and new gauges, I know the feeling.Passed the halfway mark (I sincerely hope!) on putting the new wiring harness in the white Scrambler. Not much to take a pic of - just a mess of wires and jumbled dash parts. All the switches are hooked up, though, now just lights to go. Got the engine started the other day, put the third !? (not counting the rollers) set of tires and wheels on over the weekend and set the front bumper on to discover the TDK frame holes don't line up. Gotta make a winch mount, too. Thinking about moving the front axle forward a bit as the new extra-wide flares I put on yesterday hit the tires when I tilt the clip back. Didn't happen with the narrower rims I had tried on it... Looks like they'll hit when turning and compressed as well.![]()

Exactly. It could have been horrible or even deadly on my daily highway trips.
Now to buy a new one. Do I replace or upgrade?
