What's on your Work Bench?

If I could ask, why motor oil ?

it sseems to soak in and rejuvenate the vinyl... I guess as vinyl is made from some ingredients from crude, it makes some sense.
It won't turn back the clock... it helps to eliminate some of the bleaching white and make it not as noticable, but I just put it on there and then wipe it off when selling or installing.
Over time you really need to apply other forms of protection to keep it from the sun...

that is my made up story, not sure on the factualness ;)

Got these off yesterday finally... 3 are pretty nice and will clean up... that other one is a bummer.
Someone rigged up some aluminum and then bolted it too low and it hung down on the exhaust pipe and burned through... bummer... those are the hardest ones to find in good shape.

Decided to rearrange and finish thinning out my PCM. Plan is to use the extra slots to put the headlights on relays and the ARB pump to a maxi fuse. Instead of crimping all of my own terminals I went to the salvage yard and got an entire 93 XJ harness for $20. Has all the length/gauge wire I need and the relay jumpers. Let the fun begin.

Now THAT looks like a lot of fun.

A pile of wires on a workbench always looks intimidating. :rotfl:

I'd imagine many of us have had this on our workbenches before:

It looks clean. Most of the ones I open up have weak chocolate milk in them.

Yep, it's really clean, and everything was nice and tight. I was really tempted to button it back up and run it as-is, but I'm just more comfortable with new bearings. The bearings showed signs of wear, but no pitting or spalling. This transfer case probably could have run another 50 thousand miles or more. Now I'll know for sure, though.

EDIT: I found the chocolate milk! When I pulled the detent springs out of the shifter housing, they came up with some of that goo you mentioned. At some point, someone replaced the input bearing, and probably made some effort to clean out the box at that time. All in all, I'm glad I tore in to this one... there was some heat damage to a couple of the tapered bearings, and the thrust washers on the intermediate shaft were pretty worn.

I cleaned up three wheels today. Had a request for a slate blue Sport wheel so I covered one. Color in picture didn't come out very well, but the wheel looks really nice in slate blue. Haven't had as many requests for blue wheels and grab bars as I had expected.

Brought home a new CJ8 project, but the hood and fenders were not worth saving. Need to find LEDs, but she is a nice wall hanger.

I guess I should start a new thread called "the getting old thread", as the Dr. officially said I was... sad but true. :(

Basically I haven't been able to do anything lately due to a partially torn achilles... managed to do that right before vacation, so that was fun not being able to get around.
So, essentially it isn't the pain per say, it is the fact you can't put weight on it, climb stairs, etc. and even if you stand still, it somewhat locks up.
Was on steroids and antibiotics and told to ice/rest.... hard to do with little kids and so much to do... but alas, I didn't do any Jeep stuff and just puttered around.

Have been cleaning up the mudflaps and going through bins of stuff I got along the way... it is a bump in the road I guess and also I have to "take it easy"... we will see.

Not fun. Sorry to hear it. At least it wasn't a total tear, I hear that can take the better part of a year. Hope you get mobile soon.

Cleaning up some center caps and getting the first coat of paint on the mudflaps... Need to find a 4th for this set... Rear Driver side was all mangled and became a wall hanger.
