What's your Career?

I do bad things to bad people.

Have you worked with or know Gary Good? I had breakfast with him this morning. He has been down in souther GA extending an invitation to a former Indiana resident to return to his new "Home" for the next 20 years or so.

The past 10 years I have been an Aerospace Engineer (Northrop Grumman), before that, I was a Telecom Engineer for 11 years (Pairgain Technologies/ADC). Been in electronics and mechanical design since 1981, the same year of my Scrambler. Hydraulics, Wire, and Fuel are my specialties right now.

I am a Learning and Development Manager for a major bank. In a nutshell, I manage a team of facilitators and curriculum designers and we support the Mortgage division of my bank.

I spend my days staring at a computer and negotiating training for internal clients - no fun but it pays the bills and allows me to have some toys. It helps that my wife has a great job as well. One of these days I will get a job that I love - been telling myself that for the part 14 years I have been doing this!

Time to figure out what I'm going to do when I grow up. I spent the last 27 years in the Nuclear Navy, getting ready to retire in March and start the second career.

Thanks for your service  :usflag:

Now you can play with Scramblers every day.

Architect.
I deal with office furniture people daily. Just came from a meeting, as a matter of fact. I am Dilbert's cube farm architect.

I *was* Dilbert for quite a few years...

Went to college at Eureka College (Ronald Reagan's alma mater), BS in computer sciences. Went to work for EDS in Texas in the mid-80's, then came back to Illinois after a couple years to work for an insurance company as a big iron mainframe systems programmer (I was mainframe back when mainframe wasn't cool). After several years of code-jockeying, became a manager over tech groups. After the small insurance company had been swallowed up by two successively bigger companies, went into being a customer liaison - think Tom from office space - "I have people skills, dammit!". This has steadily evolved (devolved?) over the years, and now I create and produce reports - like a TPS report, for example. Didn't you get the memo? This has been my life for nearly 27 years.

In addition... Eleven years ago this past Friday I started a fee only financial planning office. This is what I intend to do once the music stops in the IT world and there aren't enough chairs. I've written a blog providing financial advice for almost ten years now, and from that content have self-published two books, one on IRAs and one on Social Security.

Antique auto trimmer. I restored antique and classic cars for a large collection for 39 years. Building seats and tops, and doing the upholstery and the top work was my specialty, but was involved in lots of the restoration process. Now I'm having fun with Jeeps.
