1983 Scrambler "STUMP JUMPER". Frame off, 5.3 Conversion.

Now I'm looking for a transmission shifter and a transfer case shifter that will compliment each other. Should I go with a transmission mount or a floor mount for the transmission shifter. I'm leaning to the tranny mount.

My favorite trans shifter is floor mounted, Winters Sidewinder....

The sidewinder could work for me too. I already have a B&M sport shifter but I'm doing some more window shopping. Does anyone make a combination gear shifter and single lever TC shifter? I'm leaning toward a JB Fabricators TC shifter.

I like the Lokar shifters for auto driver type rigs and the sidewinder for the crawlers.

Early version of Side Winder.

Very simple and trouble free for 20 plus years.

"After having a very informative conversation with fellow member Randyzzz I am rethinking my transfer case choice. Seems the NP 241C (passenger side offset)TC bolts straight to the 4L60E and moves the front drive shaft out another 2 inches. This could work out to a much easier solution to the front drive shaft clearance problem. I want to get this right and even though I have the expensive Adapter for the D300 TC it might be better in the long run to have a simple straight drive shaft with no clearance problems."

New member, and first post... and I use it to say this: After reading a dozen of so complete rebuild threads over the past few weeks, listening to Randyzzz' advice on transfer case/drive shaft type/clocking/positioning will likely save you a LOT of time, effort, energy (and probably $$$). Every time I'm seen him give an opinion on these things, the OP usually twists, turns, and fights through multiple choices and then ends up doing what Randyzzz suggested in the beginning. I'm just sayin' is all.

Regards,

Welcome!

Very well stated. I'm sure you will enjoy our little world.

Randy is almost always right on and has helped me more than once but the 241C has about 1.1 inch more offset than the Dana 300 TC. I just installed the 241C in my conversion and it will allow enough room for a straight drive shaft. The brown truck just delivered my JB conversion SYE kit but I did not realize that it requires the TC to be torn down completely. But I'll gitter done.

Today I finished dis assembly of the chassis and hope to get it sand blasted and painted soon.
I can't remember the last time my shop was this cluttered.
Seems like this drive train keeps getting longer.

How many fans can you count in the bottom picture? LOL

I think I have enough compressor to sand blast a Jeep frame. IR compressor built in 1953 and still runs like new. Me and everything I have is old. LOL. A compressor today this size would be about 1,000 CFM but this one is only 365 CFM's. I think my sandblaster needs about 15 CFM'S. Just not sure if I can afford diesel for it.
P.S. My neighbor gave this to me because he thought the Detroit Diesel engine was frozen, he just didn't have enough battery. When i changed the oil, the engine took over 30 quarts and the compressor end to 16 gallons. Over $650.00 worth of oil. I think my neighbor made the right choice

I think you live where it is toooooo hot if you need that many fans

I also think you need a waaayyyyy bigger sand blaster to go with that compressor :headbang:

That's a nice picture to see. Glad the 241C gives you the additional room. I was playing a bit with the 81 while doing the irrigation this morning, I'm getting the itch big time to get started. I gotta finish my 82 first. That and stop buying guns and ammo...

Speaking of Guns and ammo, I have to qualify for the 600 yards range in the morning. On my local range everyone is allowed on the 100 yard range but you have to prove your ability by to be able to shoot out to 600 yards.

I also installed the JB conversions SYE kit today. I'll get some pictures up 2morrow night.
The compressor is bigger than the Scrambler. Gets up to 120 PSI in under 30 seconds and holds it.

What are using for 600 yds?

What are using for 600 yds?

I'll be shooting a 6mm SLR built on a Surgeon action with a 30" HEAVY barrel with a 5.5 x 22 x56 NXS Nightforce. The rig weights 18 1/2 pounds. I need to put 55 power Nightforce on it. Pushing a 105 Berger at about 3100 FPS. Bullet drop at 600 yards will be about 60 inches. I just hope the wind is not to high. A man could build a real nice Scrambler for the price of this gun.
I would love to bring my Les Baer 223 but at 600 yards we can't shoot any bullets under 80 gr.

I had all six fans on last week and it was still 102 degrees with 100% humidity. I had to stop and go in the A.C.
The new evaporator cooler is the only one that keeps it live able.

Okay, let's get back to work on the Je........was that a squirrel out there?
