My Newest Project - Me !?!?

I'm pretty much in your neighborhood in just about everything you said, except I haven't been told I got a fatty liver. Been getting a physical and pretty complete blood work done every year at work for the last 35 years, and sometimes by my own Dr. That did stop 2 years ago because of cutbacks. I've been knowing I need to drop some weight also, just hard to do with all the good tasting food in this area. :(

Besides the liver, losing a bit of weight will help prevent a whole host of other potential problems.

Spot on with that. When your blood work shows numbers creeping up in different areas for a couple years it’s red flags.

I have been sticking to my diet changes, lost 20 pounds in 6 weeks, down from 210 to 190. Really hasn't been too hard, haven't felt hungry or weak. The hardest thing is finding something healthy to eat when you go out to restaurants.

Glad I dropped the weight, I have to go back to the liver doctor for an MRI this Tuesday. He saw something on my first CT scan that has never shown up again. Just trying to be thorough I guess, who knows.

So, liver doctor/MRI Tuesday, cancer doctor/blood work Wednesday.

Fun fun fun :-(

You got this brother. Keep up the good work.

Growing up, I there was always a can of bacon grease on the counter by the stove. Everything my mom cooked that went into the iron skillet was cooked with bacon grease. Skinny and ran like the wind...that was my world.

Got my MRI results, and bloodwork lab results:

MRI showed nothing in my liver, all the blood vessels going to it/away from it/in it are normal. So, liver is good. Only note was "mild hepatomegaly", fancy way of saying "very slightly enlarged liver", and that is from the "fatty liver issue".

My bloodwork showed the AFP still "high" for me, but well within the normal range. All other stuff with blood was good, oncologist said it looked fine to him.

The AFP is probably "high" due to the fatty liver issue. When I say "high", it is still well within the normal range.

April 29 - AFP was 3.3
November 4 - AFP was 4.2
February 3 - AFP was 4.3

Normal range is anywhere from .5 to 8.0. So, I am not too worried about the AFP.

I have been on my diet, I went from 215 in mid December to 190 today. So, I lost 25 pounds in two months. The liver doctor said if I dropped to 200 the liver issue would most probably take care of itself. I have been at this 190 level for around a week, so i do not think I will be dropping too much more weight, not sure I really need to, but I will stick to my "healthy liver diet". According to the "BMI" calculator, 178 should be my max weight at 6' tall, if I get/maintain 185 I will be happy.

So good news, until I go back to the damn doctor(s) in May!!!! :censored:

Congrats to both the good health report and you taking the initiative to loose weight and keep it off so far. Keep up the good work!!

Yes congratulations ! Losing some weight around here takes some discipline. Already been thinking the last few days about starting Lent with a fried oyster Po-boy tomorrow.

Sooo, what magical thing did you do to drop that weight? I'm sure it wasn't diet and exercise, because that's not what I want to hear.

Needs to be something like a little red pill that I can take and make absolutely no lifestyle changes, and I want to lose weight and gain muscle while sitting on my couch drinking beer and eating taters.

Down to 188 now

I just follow "fatty liver" diet guidelines. Basically:

NO alcohol, red meat, deli meat, white rice, potatoes, sugar, carbs, fried foods, junk food, soda, candy

LOT's of grilled/baked chicken, salmon and tuna, vegetables, beans, brown or basmati rice, whole grain bread, turkey, fruit.

Basically, no/minimal fat, carbs, or sugars.

A typical day for me;

Breakfast - plain oatmeal, coffee with fat free milk, no sugar or sweetener
Lunch - rice, chicken, vegetables
Dinner - same as lunch, lunch is usually left over supper stuff

I still go out to eat at restaurants and chain restaurants, I just order the healthiest crap that they have available.

I am pretty active at my real job, Scrambler work, and yard work, so no gyms or walking or anything like that.

The diet sounds terrible, but after a few days I was used to it, don't really miss all the other garbage I was eating, except for steaks and hamburgers LOL.

I imagine I will hit a weight loss "floor" pretty soon, maybe around 180-185. I will be happy if I hit that and maintain it, which I should be able to do :fingerscrossed:

You have the will power of an ox! I lost weight on a vegetarian diet at one point, but it took a ton of work to get those veggies to taste like food... And giving up my nightly drink? That would be tough. I need to lose about 50-60 lbs. hardest part is my body is too busted up to exercise, and I love eating!

I am impressed and somewhat inspired by your dedication and progress. And so pleased with the results of your tests!👍🏻

Raymond is loosing weight correctly with a lifestyle change of what and how much fuel he is giving his body.

Anyone can loose weight and maintain the loss if you have the will power and desire. Anything other than that is an excuse not to lose it (personal opinion).

Proud of you Raymond!
