95% finished with the pier, just need to add a few more bolts on the other pile to stringers connections, I ran out, and the tide came in.
Had to use the old Coleman plasticky/rubbery boat as a work barge, ended up working well, glad it still floats. Added a strong back underneath the existing slightly damaged stringers, secured with some 3/8" diameter 10" long timber lag bolts. Working by myself, used a ratchet strap on either end to hold it in place. Now you see why I left a few deck boards out.

Slightly better picture of the old work barge. I also use this thing as a sled, winch it up and down the hill in the back yard, hauling material or yard debris. Pretty durable since I have been abusing it since 1991. Good river boat, flat bottom, like a little landing craft for beaching on shore. Won't talk about the time in high school we put a Mercury 9.9 on the back!!!
The 2x12 made a perfect bench/work platform. Sucks working off the boat, you would have you lash it at both ends to the pier when trying to install the large lag bolts.
Added a few boards to tie the strong back to the original slightly damaged piece above. Probably overkill but I had some scrap wood laying around.
Installed the missing deck boards, removed the slide (fiberglass exposed to the sun for over 30 years, it had some cracks, and really didn't use it anymore) and pretty much finished for now.
A few more bolts to install underneath, also need to remove the remaining rusted metal roof panels. Not sure if I will.replace them, probably should just for the hell of it.
Not bad for a pier built in 1991, this is the only work it has ever really needed.
If you think Jeeps are expensive definitely don't get into boats!! It's funny I live on the river, and besides the old Coleman boat pictured above, the only other boat I have is my old green 13' Gheenoe skiff pictured to the right in the below picture.
The Gheenoe is a great little river skiff. It was designed for fishing and duck hunting. Very stable, you can stand up in it and shoot shotguns out of it!! I keep saying I'm gonna buy a little 5hp for it but just never get around to it.
We have some really cold weather (for us anyway) the next week, might do some more yard clearing work, wait for it to warm up some and then get back to work on my '86 CJ-7 project.
