I got (4) firm rear spring packs, bushings, shocks and a Daystar 1" body mount bushing set😃👍. Only bad news is ARB left (2) bushing sets out of the shipment. I've read they're not the best at pick and pull I guess. This motivated me to call and get some u bolts made at the local spring shop, all of $48. Could have bought for $80 but I'm thrifty that way.
So, I've got a solid 2 1/2" lift out of the springs and 1" out of the body mounts and what I've seen done with the OME lift is to add an inch with shackles....so out came the plasma and 1/4" plate! I got the print from jeep forum by googling it. These should get me another inch of lift. So if I'm doing my math right I'm at 4 1/2" vertical! That should settle down to 4" rather nicely. I plan on running my full hardtop in the winter plus there will be the requisite Warn 8724 out front👍
This last picture is of a stock CJ shackle on top of the boomerangs I made.
I've ordered my panels from classic but still have to get my bearing kits for my Moser's and need to install my ball joints. Life has been happening and work is about to get in the way again. I'm wanting to have it together for the national event. It's doable but it'll be close. Maybe I'll use Sandblast as my backup plan. Either way I'd like to get put and meet you guys!
Well I got the holes drilled in the shackles and have to prime and paint them yet. The cold snap we've had has kinda slowed things down here. Anyhow with using 1" ID shackle hangers from a CJ the 1-1/4" YJ bushings are too large.
So what to do........chuck em in the lathe and remove what's in the way!
Here's a video of the turning, took all of what, 24 seconds!
Cat upload the video. Off to youtube!
I know what you're saying about the weather. We have been getting hammered by cold (-4 here Thursday morning) and snow (~10" this week) and it's put a damper on my Scram work.
Things have been slow here but I've had plenty of time to "shop" on the world wide want😎
For me most of the fun of this has been the hunt for parts and accessories. I've talked to and bought from some really cool people and talked to a few people that I question if their meds are correct.
Anyway, on to what brings me here to post up. I got to looking for an 8274 winch and talked to a guy and think we've got something worked out in the near future. While I was googling I found the jeep jamboree brush guards and really think they're cool looking and couldn't help but notice the Marchal 850 mounted outboard on them so I started searching. I try to avoid ebay but there's deals to be had so most of my 'choppin gets done on craigslist. I very well could be an addict.....shhh, don't tell my wife! I found these bad boys imbedded in an ad for mechanics tools, go figure. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves and pay attention to the old, yellowed masking tape price tag from a garage sale years ago.......what, no takers for $12? Kill'n me! I'll let you guys guess what I had to fork out for these😃
Next on the list is the jamboree guard. If any of you all have one, shoot me a pm. On the jeep, off the jeep, for sale or not for sale, I'd like to ask a few questions and see if you'd be willing to help me out a little bit.
Just wow. Amazing find! Anything less then $250 is a deal on those!
I have a brush gard. It is a non-winch one. Feel free to pm me with questions. It is not for sale btw.
Ok guys, back at it! Been gone for a few months.
Was able to get the springs fitted and will take the shackles off to paint.
I was also able to verify that the gas tank sending unit was functioning properly before setting the tub on. Next step is to get u bolts made and bolt the axles in, install steering knuckles, install axle shafts, hubs brakes. Then it's on to hard plumbing new brake and fuel lines. I'm thinking of using copper nickel and just using the stainless ones I took off as templates. No real threat of rust in the future.
More later and let's hope often as well. Gotta get this thing together!
I also broke up a pair of lower A pillar supports for my body guy
Then I started messing with my vent windows and broke them. What happened was that the lower pivot bolt is turned at a 90 to go into the glass surround and holds it where you put it. My fix for this was to weld a new stub on them and grind and finish file them to fit. I reassembled both and they work good as new!
Then I polished my wiper arms
Lots of work ahead of me including tire selection. I'm thinking 33-10.50's on my chrome 7" wagons. Any of you all have this set up as I'd like to see get feedback.
Lastly, got a new dog. Meet Bingo. He's got some big shoes to fill from Emma, our golden of 14 years. Lost her last August. Didn't realize how much a dog helps! Great company too.
Quite a bit has happened recently and at 1330 today it was an official rolling chassis!
So, let's back up a few weeks........
I got this in the mail. Mysunshine posted the link to it and I had to hop on it. Thing is, there's always a catch isn't there, it was advertised for a wide track when it actually was narrow track size.
And the KICKER was it came with this....a Detroit locker!
So I've sent the axles off to modify the NT long one to make the WT short one and have a new WT long axle made. The guys at Moser are doing this and if I can say they are awesome to deal with. Great group of guys. I dealt with Mike and he has his stuff in order to say the least. Nice thing about the full float is it can be assembled without the shafts
Also was able to install the new locker and pinion seal
Yes, those are ball joint dust boots from a guy named Vladimir in Hungary. Ebay is a great place to find that kind of stuff. His username is Desimir24. Easy guy to deal with and I have all of $35 wrapped up in the dust boots, shock and sway bar bushings. I wanted to keep with the yellow OME I had going on. For now they look better than black but in time will fade to who knows what. If you want to know what I ordered just shoot me a pm. I'm thoroughly convinced between ebay and craigslist you can find just about anything you can imagine. Thanks for the interest.
