'84 Postal - Do What?!?

Picked up axle housings from powder coater. Knuckles done as well just didn’t take a pic. Cool seeing the date stamp on the rear. Will be installing 3.54s with a trac-lok and 1 piece shafts in the rear.

What is your plan for tire size, engine/trans? Looking forward to see the results either way.

I have 3.54 in my 258/T176 w/31 MTR's and it seems underpowered starting out in 1st off-road. I'm trying to determine if it's related to the 140k miles on the motor.

32” BFGs all terrain tires. 258 and t999 rebuilt.

I have 31x10.5-15 Goodyear Wranglers AT of some sort. Have them on my 86 CJ7. Stock carb, t176 and 2.72's. It seems to have plenty of pep. I assume it was not released as it has the tag on the front diff saying 2.72 still. I was actually surprised to find out it had 2.72. The way it drives I assumed 3.31or 3.54(not sure it was an option). About 140,000 on my odometer also, rebuilt?? I doubt it. This is all street driving.

Thanks.
I'm curious to see how it does with the automatic.

I'm pretty certain mine wasn't rebuilt either.
I plan to swap in the 4.0 out of my '93 GC when I get back to it.

Rolling chassis is complete for now. Hope to have the drivetrain installed in the next 2 weeks. All bolts will be paint touched up after final torque. Wheels will be refurbished along with new tires of course later down the line of the build.

Motor was delivered from Jasper today. Yes, I went with original black versus AMC blue. I’m on the fence about it. I have a few weeks until I start messing with it due to a motor swap for a customer so I can let it simmer (drive me insane) if I stay black or paint it blue.

Tomorrow I head to my paint body guy to check on the tub. That’ll be exciting. Pics will be taken no worries.

Is your guy Richie doing the tub? I'd like to see it. Nice that it's progressing. Little bites, little bites........

Yep it’s in great hands with Richie

I’ve always done AMC blue on my motors - even those that were factory black. Just thought I’d stay factory with the Postal. Time will tell

Progress is slow due to lack of help at the body shop but it’s still coming along. Should have it back in my hands in a week or so to test fit top, doors, windshield frame

In the meantime got the rebuilt trans and t-case painted and matted up. As with everything else final paint touch-ups happen after assembly. Waiting on the torque converter to mate with the engine. Then will drop full assembly between the frame.

Did the top need work at the mating surface of the sides and roof?

Mine needs help there and I always thought I would do ruvnuts or nut plates to switch it from sheet metal screws if I ever did dig into that effort.

Actually no. Those three parts look to have never been disassembled until I got to it. But you read my mind when it comes to rivnuts. I was thinking of doing them anyway. All in all the top is in amazing shape with the only exception being the dent right above the drivers seat.

There was evidence the top had been taken off as a unit at some point in its life. The foam was dug out around each bolt. However someone did a good job not damaging it - even retaining the rubber gasket that goes all around the top of the tub.
