Cj-8 Hot Wheels and Matchbox

Any modded ones yet???

Has anyone painted or modified theirs yet? Since I'm still waiting on resin parts back from the caster :banghead:, I took on a little side project...I modified one into a monster truck. Fixed alot of the flaws in the casting, separated the rollbar from the halfcab, & rounded the hood to be more realistic. Still deciding what color to paint it...maybe charcoal grey metallic?

I stumbled across this past weekend when we were visiting my sister in Atlanta and had to share. For whatever reason, my sister had a bunch of my old hotwheels and matchboxes at her house. She had gotten a bunch of them out for Cooper while we were there. I had to do a double take on this and then a flood of memories came back to me.

I remember playing with this particular one when I was little. I remember having a fairly big collection of hot wheels and matchboxes and maybe my memory is selective but I think this was the only jeep in my personal kid stash of hotwheels and matchboxes. (watch for a different thread on this). Little did I know what it was or there there was an obvious error or misrepresentation on this matchbox.

But, take a look.

Its clearly a CJ6. Check out the curved door openings, the indentations in the side panels etc.

But if you flip it over the stamping on the underside says "CJ8 Jeep"

Anyone else have one of these?

Matt, was tis the "Original Gr8TOP"?

Yes, I just found a blue one yesterday at parts store. Didn't know they were out till I saw it.
I started modifying one a couple of years ago, I cut the top off and managed to keep the roll bar. No paint or wheels yet. It's sitting in my toolbox at work.

My friend Freddy does custom and hard to find diecasts for a side job.
Heres the replica of my 83 he just finshed for me.

My real 83 for reference.

He has had order from all over the world and attention to detail is spot on. Notice in the last pic he shaved the logs and axe out of the bed from the original casting.
Anyone interested in a replica of your own rig let me know and I will post his contact info.

This one peaked my curiosity so I went down to the den to my "Jeep Shrine" and pulled my CJ-6 out for a look.

Well I have my first jeep cj8 hotwheels.
A jeep friend of mine dropped in the other
day to see the progress on my wifes cj8 and
the house painting(off topic I have been painting my house for the
past 5 weeks. Ohio has had more rain this year then years past. making
almost impossible to paint.) Anyhow he was in the store and had seen
the new cj8 scrambler hotwheels and bought me one. What a nice guy!
I'm not a big fan of jeep toys. I'd rather spend the money on jeep parts.
But I thought that was very nice of him! here is a pic of his jeep!

Freddy must own a Dremel tool and some itty-bitty paint brushes. He forgot to use the Dremel on the wood side boards for you though.

cool

That looks great cj ate. Love the details and front end lights and markers... I'm in the works doing mine like that but it is not easy at all... Looks really good!

Thanks guys Freddy has been a friend for 15 years and has done this for the better part of 10 years now. The rims are out of a Nascar diecast that match my D-windows. The tires are from a rough rider hotwheels from the 80's. I told him not shave the side boards seemed like way to much work to me.
If you are doing one of your own drill the rivets out underneath and seperate the body from the rest then soak the body in brake fluid. The paint will fall right off giving you a clean slate.

Anybody else got a custom one to show off? Lets see em guys.

Resurrecting this thread, I managed to FINALLY find a blue one in a single pack and two white ones in a pack of 10. My dad thought it was hilarious that I was looking all through the hotwheels display when we were at Wally World shopping for Laura...

One of the pack of 10 is going to Laura from Santa

I had just got mine on the road and a neighbor that had been checking it out from time to time pulls up on a four wheeler and hands me this.

And the color even was the same.

Found Some Blue ones

Yea I know its 2:00 AM Christmas Eve morning. Jannie & I were picking up some last minute supplies for the family breakfast in the morning (ALL 8 Grandkids are here! ;) and One of the clerks was filling up the Hot Wheels display and low & behold I spotted a blue Scrambler! He chuckled over all the excitement of an old grandpaw finding a treasure, so he digs in his box and came up with 11 more! :rotfl:

If anyone really needs one, I'll pass it on.

AND....."The BEST wife in the world " informed me she talked to Santa & he has a blue one with the red stripe tires for me if I can be good for just one more night!!! ;) :D :christmas:

Merry Christmas everyone!!

I picked up a couple blue ones a month or so ago....

THERES WHITE ONES TOO????

Is this madness never going to end?

yep, the only white ones I found were in the 10-pack deals, the one single I found was blue. I still need to find the maroon one. I'll take a picture once Laura opens it up tomorrow ;)
