Craigslist and Estate Sale finds!

Is this a good deal and a direct bolt in?
Dana 44 front and rear?

My thought is not a good deal. Rear will need brakes, front will probably need something judging by it's condition in the picture.
Rear brakes will be $100 plus easy. Front is 6 lug so more money to convert to 5 on 5.5 or to convert rear to 6 lug but then more money for 6 lug rims. No locking hubs up front so more money there.

No such thing as a factory bolt in front 44. Only bolt in would be aftermarket.

I built mine from a set of the same. It still takes time, money and effort, but it was still way cheaper than a set from DTS or some other vendor. Think new gears, lockers, hubs, brakes, maybe axle shafts and bearing and u-joints throughout.

The waggy front would either require shortening the long tube or outboarding the spring perches to "bolt in". The FSJ frames were wider than the CJs. I used a J10 44 with the long tube (drivers side) narrowed just under 4.5". With that it will bolt right on. Steering is honestly more mental work than bolting the axle in IMO. You can with factory parts use either a 5, 6 or 8 lug pattern.

The Scout 44 rear is OK. Had a friend rebuild one and the drums were unobtanium. They may be more available now, but he paid $150 per drum.

I think building/swapping axles is a rewarding project, if you can do the metal fab/gear work on your own. If not the bolt in convenience of a East Coast Gear Supply set is pretty hard to beat.

Typical Craigslist fashion, no response from the seller. I see Speedway has a really nice 9inch 56" that would require perches but that would be bullet proof for my application.

CJ7 for parts

Seller said it looked like this before he tore it apart to fix rust.

Someone should probably buy this. I would love a v8 CJ7 but focusing on my Scrambler, and FJ40, and Rover. LOL!
