It's not much of a 46 CJ-2 anymore. So it's a lot of parts and power on a short wheelbase that was somebody's creation and probably only worth the money to that person. Obviously he wishes he had his money back. Should have started with a Scrambler.
 
I won't get into what he may of may not have in it, but what sense does it make to "invest" $65k in it over 3 years and then put it up for sale for $47,500? A bad financial advisor would probably do "at least" that "good" for you.

when almost anyone says how much they have invested, 9 times out of 10 they include the price of labor. Labor is NOT part of the investment.
 
This is a BOLD popper price. Even a Jeep SE by Whitco this would be a record. IMHO this is more like $150. The best NOS whitcos I have seen bring $350-400 with original box and bag in nutmeg and honey.

I may have half this amount invested in my 2a, but the exception will be, better quality and its purpose built for my needs, IE: going off road and having the ability to get me there and back. And it will be good looking also. But I admit, I didn't buy crate motor, or built axles and TC or anything else. I did it. But then again, I always have. Maybe that's why I don't get the price. :shrug:

I believe when you build something for your own personal use, you build it however makes you happy. The labor is not an investment, but part of the reward.

When you building to sell, the value of the labor is dependent on how much satisfaction you get from the build. If you get enjoyment from the build that is your ROI, and could actually be deducted from the overall cost of the project.
How many things in life can you do for fun that don't cost anything?
But when building to sell, it needs to be desirable and affordable to someone other than yourself. :twocents:

I didn't include any labor when I said the cost of mine. As FLCJ8 said, the labor is part of the reward for building it your way. My Scrambler is not an investment, it's my pleasure and its own reward.
 
If anyone thinks building a Jeep or a hot rod is an exercise in profitability, you're sadly mistaken. Unless you are on the same level as Icon or Legacy. You need to follow their model if you want a profit- selling price especially!
 
No one in their right mind would turn down $60,000.00 for this Scrambler right? Well I did a couple weeks ago. I'd rather sell a kidney

I would have taken $60K for it as this was a "practice run"... the next one you do it similar, but improve in some areas you wish you had not done (or redone) and then move onto a new project.
Since it is fresh in your mind, it would take less time, you wouldn't have to do a couple things twice and you would end up with an even more faster rig as you would have done an LSX instead! :evil:

It might just get an LS3 or a LSX anyway. :) But I don't know if I'll ever be in the mood for another complete build. :(
But I am in the mood for another 100 HP.

Custom mix on the paint. It took me almost a year but I'm retired and spent a LOT of my time on it.
 
Spendy, but I get the $11k so far. $19k? Thats an ask for a long bed 88.

I really want a 1991+ short, but have not found that cheap/clean combo yet.
