Latest Scrambler projects

Sadly, my Jeep is still dead. I'm still toying with how and when to do the R 2.8. But for my birthday I got a 1969 Colorado plate because I was born in Colorado in 1969..... So I put it on the front of my 8.

It isn't from the right county but I still think it looks kind of cool.

Finally got to do a few of the things left for me to do. Of course my battery took a hike so gotta get a new one. Got new dash speakers in and cleaned up the original dash pad and put it back in place. Need to work on the rats nest of wiring that has seemingly grown over the 24 years I have owned this... Tomorrow the front bumper and tow bar mounts for being towed again behind the motorhome. Then a major cleaning of the interior surfaces, new seats then get the 1/2 top back on with the new front mounts...

Was just about to order my R2.8. The cost has increased $4000 over the last year. Looking at $17000 just for the complete setup without install now. Hmm...

I did just purchase the Jeep Air heat and air con unit to accompany the engine but now I'm not sure I'm willing to dump that much more into my 8.

Ah, the obsession.

So...... do I:
*bite the bullet and do the R 2.8,
*rebuild my 351W,
*source a low mile 5.7 Ford small block replacement; or
*sell her a she sits and move on to a new project?

So many options.

Option 4 is NOT an option. o_O

I see your Engine troubles and I raise you some horrible compression numbers...

cyl #1 : 30
cyl #2 : 20
cyl #3 : 70
cyl #4 : 30
cyl #5: 80
cyl #6 : gave up

Makes sense why it wouldn't start now... the interesting part is that the rockers all move and nothing seems bent, etc... head or cylinders must have some serious leaks.

I gotta say go with option one. If that’s what you really want.

I'm inclined to 1. Or would certainly ever this rig a lifetime rig. I would then need to go with an aqualu tub, new front clip, possibly a TDK frame...... but I spend $64,000/ year on my kids tuition right now so I have to think of a way to justify it to the trouble and strife without winding up in divorce court😉

#1 would be really cool but very expensive. And there are probably many unknown challenges with more cost attached to them.

#2 or #3 would be my vote. :)

I say 2 or 3, 4 should have never crossed your mind(what's wrong with you man😁).
I have the factory 5.0 short block in my '90 Mustang. If I ever totalled it (been parked for 12 years now☹️🤬), the engine and tranny would definitely go in a Jeep(possibly a 2wd street rocket). I took that thing to the rev limiters many, many times every week(was my daily driver for 16 years) and never gave it a 2nd thought. It ran a 12.70 on street tires and motor, 11.44 on slicks and nitrous. I see alot of used engines for sale online that "seem" like good deals. I think a built 351 would be great and very fun in a CJ, and different from the more common 350/LS swap.

351W increased to around 400 cu in will give you plenty of torque. The blocks are getting harder to find, especially the roller cam late models. They are preferred.

The 351 is taller than the 5.0. The 5.0 is narrower than a Chevy small block

nice work everyone…. i get to sit in my new ride this coming tues… im the second owner of an 84 with 36000 miles on it… it needs work but runs and drives

Here is what NOT to do to remove mudflaps... just saying.
I can't believe the PO did this

Immediately you know this was a mud flap Scrambler.

Then this...
