Well I've been on this forum long enough, time to come out and say hi.

I currently own five cj's (all of which run) and have basement full of parts. I started lurking around this site a few years back when I decided to build myself a scrambler. I got my first jeep in 1999 and I still have it, 83 cj7. Between then and when I started lurking I got my hands on a couple different scramblers and different times. Both were projects and sadly I ended up selling both to finish other projects that were none jeep related. So, after having tasted the long wheel base of a scrambler I told the wife that I would have another and I would not sell it. She agree and blessed my wishes. That is how I came to find this site. Last week after three long years of building from the frame up, I finished my scrambler and put it on the road. What a great feeling. I plan on posting a build thread with more pictures.

I would like to say thank you to everyone on this site, I have met a few of you in person, talked with many, and learned a great deal on information about cj's in general on the site. This is truly a wonderfull network of jeep enthusiasts.

Jeeperdd, nice looking Scrambler! How did you mount your spare tire? It looks like it is a 32" or 33" tire. Did you have to make some type of adapter for it to fit on the rollbar mount?

It's a 32" tire with room for a 33". Custom adapter that I purchased some time ago from a member here on the forum. I'll post some pictures of it in my build thread.

Hey all! New here, I've been a member of a nissan Titan forum for several years now and found it to be a very good resource for DIY stuff. Anyways quick background story. My dad bought a 83 scrambler brand new off the lot. I was born in 84 so I spent my whole childhood in that thing, wheeling and playing around. To this day a bumpy car ride puts me to sleep haha. It was the first vehicle I learned to drive, and at age 14 dad told me it would be mine when I turned 16! I was so excited, we did a father son build on it and by "we" I mean he did most of the work and I helped turned wrenches lol. We put 4" pro comp lift, Chevy 350, 350 turbo trans. This sounds like a bad first car for a 16yr old because it was. I got many tickets right away and blew the rear end, twisted the drive line in half, broke shackles, broke stearing box mount, broke shock mounts just to name a few. Over the years I finally wised up as I realized parts and fines and rising insurance costs suck. Anyways fast forward to now, I'm 28 and I've been slowly getting the jeep back in shape over the years, still needs a ton of stuff done, but she still looks and sounds good and turns lots of heads. Love this thing and its a part of my family. I look forward to seein all the other rigs on here an sharing more pics and updates on mine, for now these are the only pics I have right now

Thanks!! Yeah I've debated painting it but I kinda like the nastalgic original look. I'll try and post some more pics with the top on. Haha I almost forgot about the light visors. I think those were originally from a vw I dunno they've been on there since before I can remember and I've just left them since they look ok. All in all she still looks pretty good but she drives not so good. Wanders all over the place. I think it's those super big lift shackles I put on there. Anyways I'm sure ill find tons of good advice on here for making her more road worthy

Wanders all over the place. I think it's those super big lift shackles I put on there.

Definitely, those killed your caster angle and also give the springs way too much leverage on the shackle bushings. You'll have all kinds of wandering issues (that's on top of any other play in the steering/suspension/steering box/ball joints).

I sold my '84 CJ-7 a long time ago at the insistance of my (now ex-) wife, and have regretted it ever since. Now that I am back "out west" where I belong and not deployed overseas, my search continues for a CJ-8.

Welcome - you've probably seen the 8s for sale locally on craigslist. There's always one that needs some attention up for sale. Patience is key.

Hi you Scrambler loving lot

I live in Halifax way over the ocean in the UK and am in the process of rebuilding this sad looking 1981 Scrambler which i paid the sum of £1500 (about $2500 dollars) for.The engine is in the back of the Toyota Hilux along with a big pile of parts as this one had been used for donor parts to keep the previous owners Jeep going.
The guy who sold it to me did give me most of the bits to get it back together but i thought i would strip it down and rebuild it so that at least she will last for a good few years more.

Also own a 1974 cj6 which is my off road toy.

I am really struggling getting hold of a rear floor for the scrambler at the moment as Lamonte at Classic enterprises is playing hard to get at the moment. I dont think he like exporting

May start a post in the rebuild section as with this being a right hand drive model its a little bit different and may interest you guys.

Welcome, we'd love to see it! Maybe you could get the guys from Wheeler Dealers to help out What's the history on it? European export, Overlander, ...?


If you need help getting stuff across the pond, several members here have some experience.

Thanks i was told it was meant for the Australian market as it has some seriously heavy duty springs on it and a "proper" handbrake thats fitted next to the drivers seat but i dont know if thats correct or not as there are a few in the country as well as mine.
As for exporting i have offered to have the stuff picked up by Ups from Classic so that all they have to do is stick it in a box and i will do the rest but i dont seem to be getting anywhere fast, they may just be very busy.
