Hi Everyone! Just wanted to stop in and say hello. I'm a new member and am currently building an 8 now. I've got a 1981 that I picked up in November and have recently started my build. Building one of these scramblers has been a long time goal of mine. I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am that I'm finally getting the chance to build one. Overall goal for this scrambler is to build it into a traveling/camping/fishing rig. I started an Instagram already @overlandcj8 but I'm planning to start a build thread here as well. Here's a picture of the jeep the day I brought it home.IMG_2818.jpeg

Always wanted a Sherwood green scrambler. My '82 is red but the code is 1c and the firewall and compartment are Sherwood green so I actually have what I always wanted. Welcome to the forum! You will not find a more knowledgeable and supportive group anywhere.

Damn - that’s a huge list. I did the opposite.

1. 1981 Mustang got used in 1993, totaled it in 1995
2. 1981 Scrambler for $1200 to replace the mustang.
2.5. Tub replacement and rebuild of the same ‘81 Scrambler in 1997. Engine wiring and up. Did it in 10 days - youthful energy! Daily driver until 2009. Still have it.
3. 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Two infants in car seats dictated something with 4 doors
4. 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited “Hard Rock” addition To replace the 2009. Still my daily driver.

I’m rebuilding the ‘81 again - frame is roached. My 14yo wants to drive it when he gets his license. Ordering the frame in the next two weeks. I need to decide the suspension/axel set up we want.
I’m excited to do it with him. Will be an adventure!

Just joined tonight, I bought my first CJ with lawn mowing money (and parents help) when I was 16. Bought my scrambler in 2002. Im now in San Diego but when I was in Hawaii I did total restorations on jeeps and similar rigs for 15 years. I will admit I will be more of a lurker than a poster

Long time Lurker, but since I recently decided to pour my time and $$$ into my SC, I've been back on the forum more, figured I would Drop a pic and a brief back story!

Heres my hand-me-down 1984 CJ-8! My dad bought this in 1987, from the original owner.(will have to dig through his old pics to share the story more! She's been driven a lot (ODO reads 176xxx) but she's free of any rust as she's lived in NM and CO for a lot of her life. The original 258 bit the dust at 124xxx so she has a low mile 4.0 from a wrecked 2006 Rubicon, NV-3550 5-speed from a 2001 Tj True trac in the rear of the AMC 20 with full float, trussed and welded tubes. ARB front Most of the drive train mods happened from 2013-2018 when I Daily drove her for in college.

Life caught up, needed to get something more reliable and sensible to keep the miles off down, so I bought a nice truck and she sat for a while.
Until now! this fall I dove back in to it, by replacing the transfer case with a new-to-me Dana 300 (the old dana 300 will go onto the bench to get a complete refresh and 4:1 kit down the road) Most recently, I towed her to my father in laws fab shop in Illinois to button up the exhaust, tow hitch and family style roll bar!

Next on the list is to re-work the suspension with something that won't sag so bad :/ new tires (35x12.50r15) and new interior. from there... just want to enjoy my little weekender!IMG_3711.JPGIMG_2934.JPGIMG_4513.JPGIMG_5274.JPG0r6TiSvjRzCbrW7kJSyg6A.jpg
