Roll bar lights?

I see a lot of the new Jeep concept vehicles have lights up on the roll bar. And honestly, I think they look cool. I remember back in the 80’s that roll bar lights were the hotness. But somewhere along the line they disappeared.

What are your opinions? I’ve thought a set of 4 KC lights would look retro cool on the Scrambler’s roll bar. And if I had thought of it before paint I would have welded tabs up there. But since I didn’t, chances of me installing some are slim. But- just for the sake of discussion- thoughts?

I like the look unless they are the cheap small amazon/ebay Chinese led lights.

I have this on my list of “to do” items. I want to use old school KC lights. And yeah, I plan to weld tabs on. I saw someone miunted a bar woth the lights and the bar would electronically rotate backwards to allow them to drip back for garage access. I don’t think I would worry about that though. I just am not sure if I would get blue covers or yellow covers. It would probably be hard ($$) to find the old blue KC covers though.

I already have a pair of the stainless KC’s and a pair of black soft covers. I might try and find a second pair.

Back in the day I had both the Cepek Super Off Roaders and the Cibie Super Oscars. I’ll have to find some pics…

 Back in the day, the 80's that is, the legal eagles had AMC call those sport bars as Roll bar left them open to liability! Just saying! :ROFLMAO:

I’ve got a pair of the Daylighters from back in the ’80’s new in the box that I never used. Hmmm….

I actually want them on my Scrambler also. There is a guy running around my are with KC’s and it looks good

Well, I casually started researching clamp on mounts last night- didn’t get too far as they all look too “add on”. Then I priced a couple more KC lights. I guess they don’t make the stainless old school ones any more. I also see the days of $39.95 lights are long gone 😎. I probably need black ones anyways. I think I’ll run an extra wire/switch/relay so what I get to that point I can make a final decision. But the more I ponder it, the cooler it sounds.

Found my old box of pictures… here’s my old K5 with Cepek’s-

And here’s a few of my 67 Bronco.
The lights when I bought it- and my beautiful bride.

Eventually I added more lights and a light bar-

And then it got painted and I sold it. Also, proof that I was young once-

And this was my 86 Bronco. No lights, but I love this pic- good memories.

I do think the roll bar lights would look retro cool on your Jeep or anyone's, especially with the half top. But me personally, I'm not a fan of the gazillion LED lights people throw on Jeeps. No one can convince me that you need that much lighting.😜 And I know that's not what you're trying to do. I just like a cleaner look.

I agree 100% with that. I know the LED bars work great, I just don’t think they look “period correct” on a Scrambler. Now if you’ve turned it into a more modern crawler that’s a different story. My prior Scrambler with the Metalcloak fenders, full cage, etc would have supported LED bars, and I did have a couple of LED backup and alley lights on it. But my current build is more respectful of the original look, I think. I actually don’t care for the multi-lens led headlights either. I’m probably going to run halogens until I can justify a set of the KC LED’s that look stock. Now, my tail lamps are LED- they follow stock lines for the lens, but when they are on, they are bright!

I’m thinking 2 or 4 KC’s on the roll bar, with hidden wires and as unobtrusive mounts as I can find or build. But there’s plenty of time for that. I’ll install the pigtail, switch and relay so the lights can be installed at a later date.

I’ll start digging through my stuff to see what I can find. But if anyone else wants to go first, do it! Just start a new thread and I’ll post up when I’m ready.

Thank you! Carol and I have been married 42 years and in that time we have owned over 180 vehicles. I have pictures of most of the cool ones, although I would have to transfer a bunch from slides. Remember those? Anyways, should we start a “past vehicles you’ve owned” thread?
Actually my dad was a trained a starving photographer back in the day, trained in a place called Art Center in LA. Just did not want to hang in that area the rest of his life. So yes I have boxes and boxes of family slides. They sat dormant for decades until just a couple years ago I brought them back to Oregon for my brother and sister and families to see them. Go with the past vehicles. I’m the opposite of you though. I’ve had 5 vehicles in my life and my Jeep is my 2nd and I still am driving my 5th
