Randyzzz Scrambler Restification Thread!

Thanks for the kind words and wishes. They worked wonders...

So, got out and finished all the small stuff. Mounted the evap canister, behind the rear wheel well next to the valves.

Got all the engine wires cleaned up, sheathed, and ready to go.

Then I put some heat shield material over the fuel filler hose cover, over the tank and on the frame where the exhaust is close. No pic of that...no pic of putting 15 gals of fuel in the tank, either. I hooked up my prelube contraption and pumped 6 qts of Mobil 1 in through the block port before the filter, turning the crank slowly as the oil pumped in. No dry starts for me. I installed the battery, turned the key to run, and checked for leaks...none!

So, it's 5:00, and a thunderstorm rolls through. Huge raindrops, and the thunder was awesome. A huge thunderclap echoed through the garage, and I figured that was a sign. I reached for the key.....

IT IS ALIVE! I bumped it twice with the key, and then cranked solid and after about 3 seconds it fired! Smooth, steady idle! I topped off the trans, coolant, and P/S, and waited for the rain to stop so I could take the wife for the first run.

WOW. Scary fast, shifts great, but the run was cut short by a sticking t-stat. I'll replace that tomorrow when the parts store opens up, and give a better report. It sounds great too, possibly a little "street rod" loud, but I like it for now. The video has really poor sound.

Yep, I'm grinning from ear to ear.

Randy I've been away from the forum more often than not lately but when I saw your thread bumped up to the top I was hoping it was your "it's running" post.. and it is..

that look on your face when you went to shut it down is priceless.. I could tell you were restraining yourself from looking too excited when you walked back to the camera and gave us the "2 thumbs up"..

awesome work man.. I can only dream of doing the level of work you can.. would love to see that rig in person one day!

Thanks, guys! It's far from done, but being driveable again is the best. There's still a lot of building left, including bumpers, tire carrier, rockers, and the whole interior (stereo, storage, ect.) So this thread has a lot of life left! :)

The evap canister is from a mid 90's Ford. It's pretty compact so it was easy to mount.

This is my first time back on the forum in months and the first thread I opened!

Congrats Randy!!!

As mentioned congrats. even though
the sound was not great in the video
it still sound really good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
