Yeah, how's this for dedication, I was on the phone talking about this forum to the forum owner as I was getting dressed to go look at scrambler parts with a fellow scrambler owner when I spotted the tornado just a few hundred yards from my back door.
Matt stayed on the phone with me as I scrambled to get windows cracked open and herd the dogs into the basement so I could watch quarter sized hail fall as my wheelbarrow did cartwheels across my yard before busting my siding. Thankfully that was all the damage and it never got closer than a couple hundred yards. A bigger one hit our town directly (we are outside of town) and flattened a lot of homes and a couple businesses.
I'll post the pics from the help we gave to a new neighbor who had pieces of a house a hundred or so feet away that was under construction smash through parts of his walls. One 8' 2x4 went through their bedroom wall, through their headboard and into their mattress right in the center of the bed. We were pulling the siding and nailing up plywood past sunset.
I have pics of the actual tornado once it passed us to the SE. But they're on my good camera and I have to get them onto the laptop and then connect online through my phone.
Power company pulled the time estimate off their site to get power back on, but just with the wires ive seen down in our immediate area, that could be a while. I REALLY need to wire the generator into the damn house circuits directly
Check YouTube for Michigan tornado, there's a long video from huron mills metro park that I think is the same one that went past us, just 10 min or so later as it moved SE of here.
If you see the really bad houses that are really close together, that is not our neighborhood, that's right in town. One neighbor lost a back window, another lost his shed (again, like the fourth time) lots of smaller siding damage.
Found out a guy on my basketball team lost his house, he's directly across from the metro park from that video. Luckily they have a ton of family in the area.
Feel so bad for the guy we helped, they'd only been in that house a month and a half, they just built it. Thankful though that we made it through ok.
Crazy damn day...
