'Mater - '77 Cherokee S 4-door

I had Matt (owner) of Bull Tear, get my 258 running after I had a machine shop build my motor. He said if I would have started it with the cheep HEI dizzy I bought, it would not last very long. He tuned it in for me. It ran great. He put in a few of his parts. Great guy. Hard to get a hold of. Nice thing is he is only an hour away from me.

You need the right cam gears for sure.

Eric, the lower eye on that rod from the wiper motor goes to a manifold bolt and the fit is loose

All I can figure is that it feels like there's a stud on the back side of the motor that it used to go to. Motor seems plenty sturdy without it, no idea.

Important work happening here tonight!

Something was missing!!!!

HAH, that's Jankowski's J10, he's showing me that he doesn't have the support/rod thing I asked about on his very similar rig :D

Jankowski? Who calls me by Jankowski? JK....but yes thats me....and yes I did confuse matters with that pic. Carry on, Carry on :)

From this moment on, me. :D

Went out to dinner tonight (all you can eat fried cod, I made them bring four extra helpings :bacon:) so didn't get started til after Laura went to bed. Radiator and AC evap/condensor whatever are out, York, alternator, PS dismounted. I got sick of my total disaster of a workbench, so took too long to clear it off in the middle of everything.

Will try to get up early to drain tranny, pull tranny hard lines, disco exhaust, drain oil and see if I can get it on the lift.

Slacker. Going to have to get Raymond to give us...errr. you lessons on dissasembly.

I didn't get the engine pulled due to running out of time, but everything is loose except for four tranny to block bolts and the engine mounts. Even got a lift chain on the front of the block. So close, but the Ravens game and taking down Christmas lights killed my progress.

Still VERY pleased with the condition and how well things are coming apart. Probably didn't need to drain the tranny. Found a receipt and it got fluid and filter not long before it was parked, but they did a lousy job sealing the pan anyway. Fluid was very clean and pretty.

Got a better look at the tcase and it looks well sealed. No evidence of leaks.

Tires are all holding air nicely.

Tomorrow is the new engine retrieval :bacon:

Bring a good tarp. Supposed to get an inch of rain tomorrow afternoon and evening.

Even got to use my thingy that looks inside the engine through the spark plug hole to read the tops of the pistons & found out its 30 over. SCORE! For Mater!

(Not posing, just holding myself up) :bacon: :rotfl:

Been thinking about this for a few days, because I've seen that before. This morning it hit me- there are some rods that are similar to that one that AMC used to support the A.I.R. diverter valve. Seeing as yours is removed, I'll bet the PO just didn't pull the support.

Nah. That air diverter valve bracket is up front. I checked my '90 Waggy that still has all its junk and it does not have that bracket at the firewall. As mentioned previously, it really makes no sense to run between the exhaust manifold and the wiper motor. I have no idea what it is.

I thought the diverter bracket went from one of the manifold studs forward. The PO could have just twisted it back on a loose manifold bolt-

Hmm...looking for a picture and found this- Maybe the rod mount for the old cruise bellows?

Hmmm. I'll take another look at mine and try to get a pic. I remember a bracket in there someplace. Eric was talking about the cruise bellows yesterday over his 3-Way, bacon. So, I don't think it was for that.

Hey, Eric. Where does that thing go that you aren't going to have when you are done?

OK guys. Did ya'll forget about the optional windshield wiper motor pre-heater tube that was on the Canadian export models? :bacon:

I don't know Toby, here lately I am good at taking stuff apart, not so good at putting it back together:confused::banghead:

But, I blame that on "Yard Scrambler" being cursed:rolleyes::thumbsup::wave:

PS - Looking good Eric. You need to let "Bad Karma's" wife take it off some sweet jumps at the sand dunes this year, she is pretty good at that:rotfl::thumbsup::wave:

Trailer with 360 hooked back up to the LJ to take to the office tomorrow and then back home. Wait til you see this engine :D

Watching Barrett Jackson and just saw what I'm going to do with the hood and cowl since I found out they're spray painted
