Long time Jeeper, first time Scrambler...
I've been lurking on here for a few months since picking up. I picked up an '83 Scrambler for Fathers day last year. This site has been extremely helpful in figuring out small issues I've had and keeping my creative process going for where I'd like to take things. Recently relocated to Avondale, AZ, so I would love to get the scoop on local trails from anyone in the know.
Not a paid member, yet, so I can't post any photos yet, but here is the build
1983 CJ-8
Mild build 401 - T-81 - Dana 20
14 Bolt rear, Dana 44 front
Sitting on 35's
Fully Rhino Lined inside and out.
Soft Top - Half Cab

I'm not a lurker I singed up right away once I started using this site because I was annoyed that I couldn't post to any threads.
Have a build 7, SB350, NV4500, that will always be around but I have always wanted an 8. I was waiting until I was in a position with a garage to work on and store the next project. Well I'm still not in that position but don't care, I want a Scrambler. I'm here to learn the idiosyncrasy's of Scramblers and most importantly to find one to buy, preferably rust free. I just missed out on the two nice ones that sold this week in classified section. If anyone see's anything for sale let me know, willing to pickup on East coast or ship from west coast.
Latest obsession is Spring Special and Laredo seats. Embossed with "CJ" even better. Looking for any seats anyone may have in Good/Excellent condition.
So my first question; was their a Scrambler Spring Special edition?

Hello all, new to the forum but not to Jeeps. I am starting a new project that will be mine until the end of time. I found a rough 82 Scrambler, the vehicle I have always wanted since I first laid eyes on one, 14 yrs old and impressionable but I had already been baptized by our 83 CJ7 we had owned for 4 years. I have a lot of work to do but I am so ready. I am in the Air force and stationed in Iowa, I grew up in the south. Um what else would you all like to know?

I am new to the forum and new to jeeps as well. I am an expat living in Trinidad and I recently picked up a right hand drive scrambler. The body is really in pretty good and the frame is in great shape. After that it gets fun. The original motor was replaced with a Nissan inline diesel and transmission. The 4wd was done away with and there was an interesting adaption of an old ford ranger bed cover bolted to the back. Brakes where gone; the master cylinder was rusted out. Looks like a small bird might have been living in it. Doors are intact but the latches and locks are busted. Someone had installed screen door latches to keep them closed. I am not sure about the axles. Havent identified them as yet. Parts will be interesting to get here as import tariffs and shipping will add 20 to 40% to the US price. Luckily I only need a complete drive train, complete break system, seats, top, mirrors, lights, roll bar/cage, axle rebuild(I am sure at the least), tires (It has 2 sets of rims! one original), gauges, steering wheel, windshield, complete lift kit, drive shafts and I am certain a few thousand things I havent thought of. But it was a really good price! Believe it or not it was still being used as hunting vehicle in the bush.
Surely you see why I picked this up right?
But the the best part is that I started taking it down this past weekend and for once I did not have to repeat myself to get my three sons to put down electronic devices and help dad with a project. That alone added to the value.
Needless to say I will be searching the archives here and asking for advice so thanks in advance. I will add some pics, when I figure put how. Or I will just ask my sons.

Welcome! We love to hear about builds in other countries and wow yours sounds like a great start, even with the small hurdles you mention. Cant wait to see more..

It's equipped with an AMC360 with Chevy TBI, AMC th400, Atlas 3.0, waggy front Dana 44 air locker and 4.10:1, waggy AMC20 w airlocker, full floating axles and Lincoln markVII rear disc brakes slowing down Iroc 39.5 x 15 biasplys.
Prolly forgetting some upgrades but those are the basics.
Recently lost my half hardtop and trying to find inspiration for a top.

I have been part of the page since 2013 and just now decided to say hello. Better late than never.
Let me start by saying I have seen several of your scramblers and I am thoroughly impressed by the quality of hard work and dedication you guys put forth towards them. I was hoping to meet several of you in South Dakota this year but unfortunately had to work. But rest assure I will be at Windrock next summer! I bought my scrambler in March 2015 that was rusted to hell and back (go figure for being a Michigan jeep). I had no knowledge of how to restore a Jeep, never welded before, never done axle swaps, etc. I slowly taught myself (courtesy of YouTube) and built what you see below. It still is a work in progress (like all Jeeps) but hope to have it done soon (lol, it will never be finished).
