SOA Mascot....

SUGGESTION

If we are going to do this then here is what we need to do when the new treasuery is elected,we need a seperate account set up to handle this,we need a roll of tickets(big roll) and start selling tickets and as soon as we have the money get lee to hook up with a body shop and get the frame and body taken care of,this maybe something that could be a two year project,as we have to have good or rebuilt parts.............Or new parts as we can do it.I love the idea of raffleing off a Scrambler at the Nats, one way to get people to join and get involved....................JC:D

I started putting together a spreadsheet to track this stuff, whether I end up doing it or someone else does (I'm still willing to help coordinate things). I'll post the 1st crack at it early next week and see what you guys think.

I also like the grass-roots idea, BTW.

One project Scrambler 1982.....has engine...has tranny (t-176), but top cover of tranny has one corner broken off (acutal tranny cover, not the thin metal floor plate)....no radiator or transfer case.
This is great! As for who does the work...We all do! If someone has a good tranny in Colorado, we can use that. If someone has a radiator we use that....If someone has a meticulously cleaned and clear coated Transfer case...Well...We could find another...(Just kidding):) But you get my point...

As for what to call it or a theme for it...I don't know...We all know you can't name a Jeep until it "Speaks" to you...But I'm not worried about that anyway.

As for the gipper Jeep, I think that's great too! In my opinion since we ARE the Scrambler guys we ought to be involved in all things Scrambler...The way I see it, to start with there were only 27.000 odd Scrambler owners ever. I'd say there are prolly less than 1/2 of those left, so we ought to give a good accounting of ourselves with the ones that remain.

decent frame, decent tub.

here are the pics

Holy generous, Batman!!! :D This would obviously be the biggest barrier in the project (tub/frame/title), and the tub looks to be in pretty decent shape.

You can filter the spreadsheet down by selecting a drop-down category on any of the columns. Also, contingencies would help determine project priorities.

Here's a snapshot filtered on the Body/Exterior/Frame category.

I'd be more then happy to take care of the body work and paint if i can get it here to Jersey! I'll take care of all the materials and paint also!

BTW, the example I posted (spreadsheet) was just thrown together from the comments mentioned on this thread. I don't mean to imply that everything listed is in stone, just so people know. I just needed some content to work with.

I wish I was closer to Jersey, Rubberhook. I'd gladly let you donate a paint job to my project. ;)

SOA board meeting topic

there is a SOA board meeting on sunday night. (2 days from now). We have added this to the topic list and we will discuss this with the other officers and give some direction after that.

Once it is all done we should have a small token from different parts of the USA on the thing. West coast, east coast and middle. Make this thing a all American Scrambler. I don't mean just another stars and strips Jeep, but something subtle and not out of place. Could be a decal or something like that?

second the nomination

First let me say that this whole thing is scratching me right where I itch. Loving the whole idea.

I keep reading replies asking for a coordinator for the project. TWICE I've seen 1x1 craig volunteer as well as put together a spreadsheet etc. For what it is worth, I'd like to second his volutary nomination to coordinate this thing. Since we live so close, I'll help him in any way I can (I've been looking for a good reason to get to know him anyway).

Matt, when you guys have your meeting and decide which way to go with this, perhaps Craigs ideas would be a great place to start.

PS Depending on the look we decide on, I've gotten a half hard top donated by my buddy Tim.

"All in favor?"

I agree that "Craig is the MAN!"

We're with you Craig! Lets do it!

How about something like this to track the various parts, donors, locations, etc.?

Craig

Someone pegged themselves as an Excel dork!!! :D (this coming from a fellow Excel dork)

Nice, I was putting something very similar together in my head, but you obviously beat me to actually executing it...

D30

Stupid me forgot that I have a matching D30 front, also geared 2.73 :(.

It's in for this as well. Needs shafts, knuckles, brakes, etc. though. It's just the housing, carrier and gears.

Between my axles and Lee's frame and tub, all we need is a set of springs and wheels and we could have a rolling chassis inside of one weekend here in NC... from there a trailer and a little shove could put it mobile to anywhere else in the country!

Just need some spare bits for the axles to make them complete... I could probably come up with those from a couple of the local Jeep clubs if Lee doesn't have spares sitting around (but I think Lee will have donated enough already with the frame/tub!)

Sound like a good first step to anyone else?

(Matt, I'm just suggesting here and would be happy to defer to ideas from the board...)

Thanks guys. I'll let everyone here decide if I should be the coordinator on this. As Matt mentioned, more will be known after the next SOA meeting. I actually just signed up on the SOA, so I'll be "official" - It was about time I got around to it anyway.

Feedback on the spreadsheet content? If you look at the first shot (view all), you'll see some replication on engine & tranny. This is because a few different people offered up options. I added a "-A", "-B", etc. after the item #. This way, concensus on the best option can be reached after considering the additional required parts for each option.

Also, Item #'s could have an easily-identifiable a 3-character prefix that would tell you what sub-group they're part of. Any suggestions on a better breakdown of categories (e.g. - Driveline, Engine, Electrical, etc.)?

Does anyone see additional columns that should be added?

A geek, I am. I had to put together a spreadsheet for my Scrambler project so my wife would know how much I'm spending. It is nice, as I'll be able to track almost to the dollar what the project cost. "Am I anal...Yes I am." Oh wait, that song was "Am I Evil" by Metallica...not anal. ;)

Anyway, throw suggestions at me.

Craig

BTW, nobody caught the sample category manager for the "Engine" category. My wit is wasted on you people. ;) :D

I did notice, I just got so caught up in replying that I forgot to mention it...

Yeah.... we're gonna need you to come in on Saturday to work on the Scrambler... mmmmkay?

Since I am in the scrounge phase of my own project, my parts supply is limited.
However I do have a brand new ignition module I bought before I realized I didn't need it, as well as a few other small parts that I ordered wrong or whatever. I'd be willing to donate them rather than hassle with returning them.

That's what we ought to do, is put together a spreadsheet of who has what, then maybe we can spot a trend as to where the parts are. Then we have an idea what can be constructed where....

I need to do that too....I didn't at first because I wasn't sure I would survive the lockjaw I was sure to get from being around so much rusty metal......

My '7 is like that. I refer to it as a "Tetanus Shot on Wheels". :D Sounds like you have made HUGE progress, though. Any recent pics? I can't recall seeing any lately.

I think I'm good for an under-dash wiring harness, either from an '81 or '82...I'll have to check. I believe I might also have an extra set of gauges, but I'll have to verify.

For the interior, I'll be able to donate a black OEM center console providing I don't get bad news when I go to reupholster the split bench seat in mine (the seat frame seems solid, so I'm 99% certain that I'll won't be needing the console).

I'm sure I have some other little stuff around...I just need to take inventory.
