What's on your Work Bench?

How a lot A New Workbench, said in a game show host voice. My brother gifted me (2) solid wood doors 78” x 36” x 2” and said they make great workbenches. Had some 2”x2”x1/4” angle ready to use and away I went. I had the (4) swivel casters that have the capability to lock in the 90* positions in the shop from who knows where. Came out pretty nice. I debated on table height between 40” and 36” but I settled on 36”. They roll nicely on the old tennis court surface so that’s a plus. I already have some tools on the bottom like the miter saw and plasma cutter. I have a second vise that I’m considering mounting to it, we’ll see IMG_3234.jpeg

Well, CJ-8-1/2 was “gifted” a 1999 Chevy 1500 2wd from his Papa, that PappPaw to you non-southerners. Let’s call Papa CJ-6, fitting I think!!
It’s a clean 5.3 with 187k on it, no rust but a few mechanical issues and some lock/window stuff going on. All in due time. Got some polished alloys on it but a true Grandpa truck and not cool for a 15 yo on his permit. So he scraped together some coin for an Amazon leveling kit for it. He and I spent the evening out in the shop during this current weather event, who’s feeling stupid now, installing it. Thing I love about the truck is just how clean it is. No rust and hasn’t been violated by anyone.
Pretty straightforward install, tear it apart and get the coils out to install the spacers to lift it. What I was glad I did was head on into Winston-Salem taking my life into my own hands to Harbor Freight for their coil spring compressor on sale to aid in the installation. Couldn’t have done it without this tool.
All in all a good evening in the shop and CJ-8-1/2 is tickled with the measured +2” lift I. The front. I really like the new stance.

The last thing on the bench before I finish installing the HEI distributor and timing the 8 is my '12 Victory Highball. I had to rebuild the forks and just need to finish torquing the bolts and the axle down and she will be back on the road. I miss riding that bike and can't wait to get her out again. Now I have to clean the puddle of fork oil off the floor.

Yesterday I made a console pad in Slate Blue for someone who asked for it. I also finished up a Honey Laredo horn button for another request. Did Jeep ever make a Honey Laredo interior? I covered a Laredo wheel in Honey leather and so I made the horn button to match. This one I cast the allen heads to complete. Today I painted a Nutmeg Laredo horn button and ring for another person. Laredo Horn buttons on Ebay are getting crazy expensive. Supply and demand I guess. Today I made up the plywood bases with T nuts for more console pads. Now I've got them ready if I get a request or I want to spend some time making them up.

Broken lockouts seem to be the flavor of the day. That took a whole lot more torque than mine did! Piece it back together and good luck.

Not on the work bench, but this 2 door whatever, is next door. Mardi Gras was yesterday so maybe it was used for parades. IMG_4984.jpeg

Two wheel barrels worth of roots I removed from the dirt floor of the Jeep storage tent. Smoother ride in and out of there now!

Blower wouldn’t stay running after 30 - 45 seconds. Tried a couple of new plugs and the same thing. Once it warmed up it wouldn’t start until cool down. Figured it might be the coil and sure enough that was it. This picture is almost back together. IMG_5039.jpeg
