Randyzzz Scrambler Restification Thread!

Just for fun, and to check clearances, I threw the fenders on. There's no clearance problems on the engine side, although the Wrangler inners have some funky curves. However, I've got quite a bit of tire stick-out! :D I have that poll going on fenders and flares... I think I need something a bit wider than the Xenon fronts...may be a tube fender build thread yet.

You can really see the difference between the old paint on the grille and the new paint on the fender in this shot...

The rear isn't quite as bad...

Nice - I just read the whole thread.

Makes me mad at myself how fast you are progressing. I spend more time cleaning rust, and patching holes in my project. Super nice work, makes me want to redo some of my hacked junk.

I am about to start wiring on mine, so I may have a few questions for you.

Thanks! No problem on the questions, glad to help.

I really don't think I'm going fast...seems pretty slow to me. And it will be slower for the next week or so...my wife has "kindly requested" I finish her Wagoneer, or else. ;)

And then, looks like I might start back to work full time in a week or so...

Dynamat, tow bar, and off to the Cruise-In!

Got a little more accomplished. I decided to install sound control, trying to keep the inside quiet. I covered the firewall, cowl, and rockers with Dynamat Extreme. I am amazed what a difference it makes, just from knocking on the panels. From a resonating boom to a heavy thud. I'm probably going to do the rest of the body...but this stuff isn't cheap...and it sure isn't easy to work with!

So, the guys at the local Saturday night cruise in have been bugging me about what I've been up to, so I decided to show them. I installed a front bumper and tow bar (I like the looks of the bumper, it might stay). I have a matching bumper for the rear if I want. might look cool.

Then I hooked up my towing lights, and hung the license plate. All legal-like, just in case.

I hooked up to the Jeepster, and took it for a drag around the block. She tracks like a dream! Put a huge smile on my face...Sure makes the Jeepster look small.

And, off to the Cruise. Got a lot of positive comments, and alot of questions about the wiring. Everyone seemed amazed that I stuffed an LS into a Jeep. It was a very positive experience, and a lot of fun. Even the guys with the 100K rides seemed impressed. Everyone wants me to keep bringing it back as I make progress.

So, all in all a great day. Tomorrow it's off to the junkyard, gotta find a front axle for a '98 Grand, and some interior stuff. Found the Grand for my Daughter, the Wrangler was too hard with baby seats. Got a great deal, just needs front end work(ring and pinion noisy, looking for a Cherokee high pinion axle to replace it) and A/C repair. Need to find an unbroken console too.

Nice, the price of Dynamat always put me off, the postal needs massive bodywork before it would even be appropriate to use any.

So do you just go back and cut holes/remove it where you have to mount things?

Cool that you got to show it off. I bet that gave tons of motivation to keep cranking on it...

They sound a lot different than most cruise in guys around here, most of them don't give a rat's a-s about a Jeep. :(
Your Jeep is looking good.

Wow, my ;)...I mean your Jeepster looks cool towing that awesome Scrambler! :D

Very nice front bumper, too...did you build it?

Did you fire up that LS powerplant yet?

I put some Dynamat on my J20 firewall, too. I think when I do the rest of the cab, I'm going to try this:

http://www.tptools.com/p/2599,354_TP-Tools-TPM-Total-Protection-Mat.html

This company is practically in my backyard, buy supplies from them quite a bit. There are others that have sound deadeners like Hushmat, Lizard Skin (spray on) and more no-names like TP has. With Dynamat, you're paying for a name, I think all the others are comparable.

I masked off the areas that need to be removed. Some trimming with a knife and they should pull off. Plus I have a lot fewer holes than stock.

The bumpers are Pro Comp cheapies, I bought 2 with the intent to add some hoops and resell them and make some $$, but they're well made and I like them, so I'll probably keep them.

I looked all over and wanted a thick mat with butyl instead of asphalt. After a lot of EBay searching, I found a fair price. Plus, after reading about problems others had with off brand products, I decided to stick to Dynamat. Although a friend in the stereo business wants me to try some Scoche Mat, so I might do the back in that. It's thinner, but two layers would still be half the price of the Dynamat.

That TPM looks good, but will that thin a layer still kill the noise?

I'm actually going over the firewall with 1/4" heat padding, and then spraying the floors with about 3/16 bed liner.

Updates might be at a slower pace now...I start back to work full time tomorrow!:D

Hi Randy,
I justy spent the last hour or so catching up on your build....
A M A Z I N G work bro..:D

I love the upgrades, changes and the modifications you've done in this build.
Thanks for taking the time to share this with all of us.:p:
Your rig has come such a long ways since I first saw it some 6yrs ago.

BIG CONGRATS on being able to go back to work full time.. I know you will miss being home with your sweetheart:rolleyes:

Jeff

Thanks, guys. It's good to feel more financially secure. My wife says she'll be missing me, but I know she'll appreciate the paycheck! I am going to have to pick up the pace, I really want to be driving by my birthday, 11/01. I still have the Waggy to finish too...been helping my Daughter and son in law with their Jeeps instead of working on ours. It's cool, though- since Jackson was born they come over here every night, stay for dinner, and hang out. Good family times.

I am getting to the parts I am really looking forward to doing on mine- cage, dash, and wiring.

Z2W- I have been meaning to call and it seems I finally get free time at about 11:00 at night. I will get in touch some day soon.

The Commando will probably be for sale once the Scrambler is completed. :D You guys will be the first to know.

Picked up some Scosche sound mat today...looks a lot nicer than the Dynamat, and it was cheaper, too!
