I got the engine out of the Jeep yesterday and got it torn down to inspect for the noise. Like I had suspected, the engine did end up having a needle bearing failure in the roller end of the lifter. The lifter itself is even a bit oval now too. The cam got marked up a tiny bit but because of synthetic oil, it's not completely wiped off. The rod bearings look really good along with the crank bearings so it looks like I will be able to build this block instead of having to convert the electronics to run a later model 6.2L platform engine. So now it's time to get the compression up a bit so I can run these LS3 heads that I acquired a few months ago. I wanted to change the camshaft anyhow but just not right now. Time to get to work.....

I now have all of my parts to get this engine done. I'm going up a little on the compression and going to a 112 lobe separation on the camshaft. I was running a 114 before but it just wasn't the sound uvwas looking for. I'm going with the rectangle port LS3 heads on top also. Now if only our machinist would get back from his cruise so the block could be honed to fit the piston. Unfortunately I'm missing all of the good weather in the meantime because it's starting to cook out here already.

The machine work on the block is done now in the motor is finally assembled other than getting the correct length pushrods this next week. The motor is finally installed back into the Jeep and now I have to figure out what I want to do with the intake manifold. I'm leaning more towards the Holley High ram intake instead of the factory truck manifold right now. With my loose converter, the truck manifold really will do me no good for bottom-end power and will kill the top end that the heads and cam would provide.

Now that the intake manifold is installed, I now need to cut and reweld the upper about 2.5" to move it back for better room for the air intake tube. With the 90mm throttle body now, the air intake tube will now be 4" so it's going to be tight. The good part is that it at least runs and moves under it's own power now. :)

With a little cutting and welding, I now have enough room for the air intake to go thru the front drive. I'll build the air intake this weekend and throw it on the dyno to get the tune done. Other than the pressure relief valve hung in the power steering pump, it's just about ready to drive again. Unfortunately it's already 110 degrees outside. That's not good for horsepower or enjoyable driving. I guess that I better rebuild those A/C lines that I had to take off for the shock hoops. I gotta have my chilly wind. :)

So the Scrambler went back on the dyno last weekend but ran into a few issues as usual. The power steering pump intermittently decided that it was going to go into full bypass so that meant that my hydroboost wasn't going to be working on the dyno. No big deal..... I'll just Armstrong the brake pedal when I needed to slow the rollers down. Then the pump decided that it didn't like the fluid being in there anymore, so it puked fluid all over the dyno room floor. After cleaning up that wrecking yard, I went back to tuning it again. Sometime in the interim, the pump started to work again and I developed a pinhole leak in the stainless high pressure Teflon hose so it sprayed PS fluid everywhere again. Needless to say, I was done for the day. All the signs in the world were telling me to not proceed any further. Besides, with it being 111 degrees with an air density of 4100ft, it wasn't going to be a good day to make power anyhow. I'll put a new pump on there this weekend and give it a shot again since it's only going to be 95 degrees. We will see how it turns out. With this engine combination, I'm shooting for somewhere between 450-500hp when it's done hopefully. If I get what I expect out of it, it should be a riot to drive.

The engine combination that I had in there did not work nearly as well as I would have liked so another camshaft is on the way. It made some pretty decent power(about 400hp) but it just didn't have the sound I was looking for. This is one of those where you kinda knew what the results would be in the back of your head but kept telling yourself that it'll be alright. So probably in two weeks, I'll get the motor out and swap the new cam in there that I ordered. The new cam has a lot more lift(.617/.624) and a lot more duration than what I have in there now. Since the intake valve is so large in the LS3 heads and I have flat top pistons with no valve reliefs, piston to valve clearance may end up being an issue. That will be part of the checks that I will have to make once the new cam is installed in the block. If I have to pull the engine apart to put different pistons in I'll just throw up. That also would mean that the rotating assemble will have to be rebalanced too. But if that is the case, that's just what I will have to do. I know what I want and I'll just keep going until I get it..... I did get the air intake mocked up in the meantime so now I just need to find the air filter that I'm going to use and build an air box so the fresh air will come from the vents on the side of the fender.

So now that it's not a million degrees out here(Only 108), I need to get back on this project and get it going. I put it on the dyno today to get the tune 90% done so I can start driving it and so I can finish up some of the other engine related components. The air intake tube is all spotted together and still needs to be finish welded yet. The shock tower cross over tube still needs to be fabricated but I'm not sure what I'm going to do with that yet. With the Holley hi-rise intake manifold on the engine now, it does not leave much room to run a tube across the top anymore. I just need a few beers and I'll figure out a solution. While I was running the Jeep on the dyno, I remembered that I still had my GoPro in the console from EJS but I did not have much battery left. I was able to get a clip of one of the runs on the dyno but unfortunately it surely wasn't one of the good runs as you can hear from the not linear power. :censored::poop::geek: While I was running it, I ended up having a rocker arm bolt come loose on me too. See guys....This crap happens to me too...... The good part is now it's driveable and I can get it out on the street again. I have not driven this thing since EJS back at the end of March so I've been having some withdrawals. While I had it on the lift last weekend, I changed the shock compression shims since it was set up for a LOT more weight in the back than I currently have. I also swapped out the Eibach springs for King springs to match the front coilovers. Now that it's running, I can put my MSD coils back on too. I was having some unusual running(fueling) issues so I had to revert back to the stock equipment to isolate out anything induced by changed parts. I was having a huge fuel trim differential between banks which turned out to be related to how I had the fuel lines configured with the new fuel rails. After installing a Y-block and some other changes, I'm good to go....

He is busy still making changes! LOL
Post a lot on Facebook. Might have better luck chasing him down there.

New cage, seats, console, etc.
